Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Questions
Do I need an electrician to install this trimless plaster-in downlight?
Yes, this is a hardwired mains-voltage fitting and installation falls under Building Regulations Part P in England and Wales. You'll need a qualified electrician or competent person registered with a scheme like NICEIC or NAPIT to carry out the work legally and safely. The trimless design also requires precise cutting and plastering skills during first-fix, so it's typically installed during renovation or new builds rather than as a retrofit.
What GU10 bulb should I use with the Kanto downlight?
The fitting accepts any standard GU10 bulb up to 7W maximum. For best results with the tiltable feature, opt for a GU10 LED with a narrow beam angle (around 36°) to create focused accent lighting, or a wider flood beam (60°+) for general room illumination. The fitting is dimmable with leading edge (TRIAC) dimmers, so choose a dimmable GU10 LED if you want dimming functionality.
Can this downlight be used in a bathroom?
Yes, the Kanto has an IP65 rating which makes it fully splash-proof and suitable for bathroom zones 1 and 2 (above the bath or in the shower enclosure). Just ensure the dimmer switch itself is positioned outside the bathroom zones or is rated appropriately. Always confirm zone placement with your electrician during installation.
What are the exact cutout dimensions for this trimless downlight?
The fitting requires an 87mm wide cutout in your plasterboard ceiling, with a recessed depth of 106mm and overall height of 39mm. Because it's a trimless design, the plasterboard edges sit flush with the fitting's frame, which then gets skimmed over with plaster to create the seamless finish. Ensure you have adequate void depth above the ceiling before ordering.
How much can the downlight tilt and in which direction?
The Kanto features a tiltable gimbal mechanism that allows you to angle the GU10 lamp to direct light where needed — ideal for wall-washing, highlighting artwork, or accent lighting in alcoves. While the exact tilt angle isn't specified, tiltable GU10 downlights of this type typically offer around 20-30° of adjustment from vertical. The black internal gimbal rotates fully within the aperture for 360° directional control.
Is the matt black finish visible once installed or does it disappear completely?
Once plastered in, only the internal aperture and the matt black gimbal mechanism remain visible — the outer frame is covered by skim plaster to create the trimless effect. This means you'll see a clean circular opening with a black tiltable fitting inside, giving a contemporary minimalist look. The black finish is particularly effective in modern interiors or against dark ceilings where you want the fitting to recede visually.
The Enso Standard
Anyone can sell you a light.
We’d rather sell you the right one.
Lighting, considered.
Chosen, not stocked
For every piece here, we passed on hundreds. If a fitting doesn’t earn its place, it isn’t here.
Curation is mostly the art of saying no.
Held to one standard
Copenhagen brass or precision-built LED — every piece is vetted the same way: finish, build, light quality, safety. If it doesn’t pass, it doesn’t stay.
The standard doesn’t care what a light costs.
Nothing left to guess
Every dimension, bulb, IP rating and install note published before you buy — you and your electrician know exactly what arrives.
The spec sheet is the love letter.
Backed, properly
Two-year warranty as standard, 30-day returns. If something isn’t right, we’d rather know — and put it right.
A fitting should outlast the fashion that chose it.
