The Chavane uses a standard E27 screw-in bulb, which is not included so you can choose your preferred style and colour temperature. You can fit any E27 LED, halogen, or decorative filament bulb up to the maximum wattage specified in the instruction manual. The clear ribbed glass works beautifully with visible filament bulbs if you want that vintage aesthetic.

Dimming depends entirely on the bulb you choose and whether you have a compatible dimmer switch installed. The fitting itself will work with dimmable E27 bulbs, but you'll need to ensure your wall dimmer is rated for LED if using LED bulbs (older dimmer switches designed for halogen often cause flickering). Always check the bulb packaging confirms it's dimmable before purchasing.

Under UK Part P Building Regulations, installing or replacing a ceiling light fitting is generally considered notifiable work if you're creating a new circuit, though simple like-for-like replacement is often permissible for competent DIYers. If you're in any doubt about isolating the circuit safely or connecting the wiring correctly, you should hire a qualified electrician. The pendant is designed to fit a standard BESA box or ceiling rose, and mounting hardware is included.

The glass shade measures 25cm in diameter, making it ideal as a single statement piece over a small dining table or in a series of two or three above a kitchen island. The total drop height (including suspension cable or rod and shade) will determine how low it hangs, but this should be detailed in the instruction manual included in the box. Make sure to account for ceiling height and head clearance, especially over walkways.

This pendant does not carry an IP rating suitable for bathroom zones, so it should not be installed within the regulated zones around baths, showers, or sinks. If you want to use it in a bathroom, it must be positioned outside of zones 0, 1, and 2 (typically at least 60cm horizontally from the bath or shower, and outside the area directly above). For safety and compliance, consult a qualified electrician familiar with bathroom lighting regulations.

The clear ribbed glass is translucent rather than opaque, so it allows most of the light through while diffusing and scattering it beautifully to create soft patterns on surrounding surfaces. You won't experience significant light loss compared to an open bulb, but the striated texture does soften the brightness and reduce glare, making it comfortable for use in dining and living areas. Choose a higher-lumen bulb if you need the pendant to provide primary task lighting.
