Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Frequently Asked Questions
What type of bulb does the Alpa rattan pendant take and is it included?
The product specifications don't indicate the bulb type or whether one is included in the box. You'll need to check the lampholders on the fitting when it arrives, though most rattan pendants of this style use E27 (Edison Screw) bulbs. We recommend contacting the retailer before purchase to confirm the fitting type and whether you'll need to purchase bulbs separately.
Can this pendant be used with a dimmer switch?
Dimming capability depends on both the pendant's internal wiring and the bulb you choose. The specifications don't confirm whether this fitting is dimmable, so you should verify with EnsoLight before purchasing if this feature is essential. If it is dimmable, you'll need to pair it with dimmable LED bulbs and a compatible trailing-edge dimmer switch for flicker-free performance.
Do I need an electrician to install this rattan pendant light?
Under UK Building Regulations Part P, installing or replacing a ceiling light fitting in most rooms is permissible as DIY work, provided you're competent and turn off the mains supply first. However, if you're adding a new circuit, working in a bathroom, or are unsure about the existing wiring and ceiling rose compatibility, you must use a qualified electrician. The fitting comes with mounting hardware and installation instructions.
What are the full dimensions of this pendant and how low will it hang?
The shade itself is 66cm in diameter, making it a substantial statement piece suitable for dining tables or kitchen islands. The specifications provided don't include the drop height or whether the cable length is adjustable, so you'll need to confirm the total drop and whether it can be shortened to suit your ceiling height before ordering.
Is this rattan pendant suitable for a bathroom or en-suite?
No IP rating is listed in the specifications, which means this pendant is not certified for bathroom use. UK bathroom lighting requires specific IP ratings depending on the zone (IP65 for zones 1 and 2, IP44 minimum for zone 2 in some cases). The openwork rattan construction would also make it unsuitable for damp environments where moisture protection is needed.
Will the 66cm rattan dome work above a standard 4-seater dining table?
Yes, the 66cm diameter makes this pendant well-proportioned for tables between 120–160cm long, which typically seat four to six people. As a general guideline, the pendant should be roughly half to two-thirds the width of your table, and the Alpa fits comfortably within this range. Hang it approximately 75–85cm above the tabletop for optimal task lighting and to avoid head clearance issues.
