Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Questions
Does the Silas outdoor wall light need to be installed by a qualified electrician?
Yes, as a mains-powered Class I wall light, the Silas must be installed by a qualified electrician in compliance with UK Building Regulations Part P. The fitting requires a suitable earth connection and proper outdoor wiring, so this isn't suitable for DIY installation unless you're a certified electrician. Most installers will expect a BESA box or suitable mounting point on an exterior wall.
Is this wall light suitable for use in exposed outdoor locations?
The Silas has an IP44 rating, which means it's protected against splashing water from any direction and is suitable for sheltered outdoor locations such as covered porches, under eaves, or beside doorways. It's not rated for fully exposed positions subject to direct heavy rain or pressure washing. For completely exposed coastal or unsheltered walls, you'd need a higher rating like IP65.
Can I replace the LED bulb in this fitting when it stops working?
No, this wall light uses an integrated LED design, which means the LED module is built into the fitting and cannot be replaced separately. Integrated LEDs typically last 20,000-30,000 hours (roughly 15-20 years with normal use), after which the entire fitting would need replacing. The advantage is a slimmer profile and no bulb maintenance during its long lifespan.
How bright is 200 lumens and is it enough to light a doorway?
At 200 lumens with a 4W output, this is a low-level accent or marker light rather than a primary security light. It's ideal for subtly illuminating doorways, house numbers, or architectural features, but won't flood a porch or pathway with bright light. For comparison, a traditional 25W incandescent bulb produces around 230 lumens, so expect a gentle wash rather than strong illumination.
What are the dimensions of this wall light?
The Silas measures 170mm in height, 83mm in width, and projects 48mm from the wall. This compact rectangular profile makes it suitable for narrower walls beside front doors or garage entries where a larger fitting might look oversized. The slim 48mm depth means it won't protrude far from the wall surface.
Is this outdoor wall light dimmable?
The product specifications don't indicate dimming capability, so you should assume this integrated LED fitting operates at full brightness only. Most integrated LED outdoor lights at this price point are non-dimmable unless explicitly stated. If you require dimming functionality for mood lighting, you'd need to look for a fitting that specifically lists dimmer compatibility.
