Yes, this is a hardwired Class I fitting that must be installed by a qualified electrician in compliance with Part P of the Building Regulations. The installation involves connecting mains 230V wiring directly to the fitting, and as it's an outdoor light, proper IP-rated connections and suitable cable routing are essential. The suitable surfaces include plasterboard, brick, and masonry walls, with a moderate installation difficulty rating.
Can this outdoor wall light be used in wet exposed areas or just sheltered locations?
With an IP54 rating, the Ward is protected against dust and splashing water from any direction, making it suitable for most outdoor locations including porches, patios, and house walls. However, it's not fully waterproof (which would require IP65 or higher), so it's best positioned where it won't be subjected to heavy driving rain or direct water jets. The IP54 rating is adequate for typical UK domestic outdoor use under eaves or on exposed walls.
Can I replace the LED bulb when it eventually fails?
No, this fitting uses integrated LEDs which are built into the unit and cannot be replaced. The LEDs have a rated lifespan of 30,000 hours, which equates to roughly 10 years if used for 8 hours per day. When the LEDs eventually reach the end of their life, the entire fitting would need to be replaced rather than just changing a bulb.
Is the Ward wall light dimmable with a standard dimmer switch?
