Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Questions
Do I need an electrician to install this fire-rated downlight?
Yes, hardwired downlights like the Valtari require connection to mains electricity and must be installed by a qualified electrician under Part P of the Building Regulations. The installation is rated as moderate difficulty due to the fire-rated housing and precise cut-out requirements. Your electrician will need to cut a 68mm hole in a plasterboard ceiling and connect directly to your mains supply.
Can I use this downlight in a bathroom?
Yes, the IP65 rating makes this downlight fully protected against moisture and suitable for bathroom zones 1 and 2, including directly above a bath or shower enclosure. The fire-rated design also provides additional safety in moisture-prone areas. Always ensure your electrician follows the IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) for bathroom installations.
How do I change the colour temperature on this fitting?
The Valtari features a switchable colour temperature that lets you toggle between 2700K (warm white), 4000K (cool white), and 6000K (daylight) using a small switch on the fitting itself, adjusted before final installation. Once installed, the colour temperature remains fixed at your chosen setting unless the fitting is accessed again. This allows you to select the perfect ambience for your room without needing multiple products.
Is this downlight dimmable, and what type of dimmer do I need?
Yes, this integrated LED downlight is fully dimmable. You'll need a trailing-edge (phase-cut) LED-compatible dimmer switch rather than an old-style incandescent dimmer, as standard dimmers can cause flickering or buzzing with LED fittings. Your electrician can advise on compatible dimmer models during installation.
Can I replace the LED bulb when it eventually fails?
No, this is an integrated LED fitting, meaning the LED module is built into the unit and cannot be replaced separately. However, quality integrated LEDs typically last 25,000–50,000 hours (roughly 15–30 years of normal domestic use), and the entire fitting comes with a 2-year warranty. When the LED eventually reaches end of life, the whole fitting would need replacing.
How slim is this downlight compared to standard fittings?
At just 32mm in height, the Valtari is significantly slimmer than traditional fire-rated downlights, which often require 70–100mm of ceiling void depth. This makes it ideal for shallow ceiling spaces or where insulation sits close to the plasterboard. The visible diameter is 89mm with a 68mm cut-out required in your ceiling.
The Enso Standard
Anyone can sell you a light.
We’d rather sell you the right one.
Lighting, considered.
Chosen, not stocked
For every piece here, we passed on hundreds. If a fitting doesn’t earn its place, it isn’t here.
Curation is mostly the art of saying no.
Held to one standard
Copenhagen brass or precision-built LED — every piece is vetted the same way: finish, build, light quality, safety. If it doesn’t pass, it doesn’t stay.
The standard doesn’t care what a light costs.
Nothing left to guess
Every dimension, bulb, IP rating and install note published before you buy — you and your electrician know exactly what arrives.
The spec sheet is the love letter.
Backed, properly
Two-year warranty as standard, 30-day returns. If something isn’t right, we’d rather know — and put it right.
A fitting should outlast the fashion that chose it.
