Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this spotlight need to be installed by a qualified electrician?
Yes, as this is a hardwired ceiling spotlight, installation falls under Part P of the Building Regulations in England and Wales. Unless you're a competent person registered with a scheme like NICEIC or NAPIT, you'll need a qualified electrician to carry out the installation and certify the work. The Genesis mounts directly to your ceiling wiring, typically connecting to an existing ceiling rose or junction box.
What type of bulb does this spotlight take and is one included?
This spotlight uses a GU10 bulb with a maximum wattage of 35W, but no bulb is included in the box. You'll need to purchase a GU10 bulb separately—we'd recommend an LED GU10 for energy efficiency, which typically uses around 4-6W whilst delivering the equivalent light output of a traditional 35W halogen. The fitting is fully dimmable, so ensure you choose a dimmable GU10 if you plan to use it with a dimmer switch.
Can I use this spotlight in a bathroom?
No, this spotlight is rated for indoor use only and lacks an IP rating, making it unsuitable for bathroom zones where moisture protection is required. For bathrooms, you'd need a fitting with at least an IP44 rating (or IP65 for shower zones). This Genesis spotlight is ideal for dry indoor areas such as kitchens, hallways, living rooms, or bedrooms.
What are the dimensions and how far does it protrude from the ceiling?
The Genesis measures 155mm in diameter and has a height of just 60mm, making it a low-profile flush-mount spotlight. It sits relatively close to the ceiling, ideal for rooms with standard or lower ceiling heights where you want directional lighting without a bulky fitting protruding into the space.
How adjustable is the spotlight and can I change the direction after installation?
The Genesis features 330° rotation and tilt adjustment, allowing you to direct the light beam precisely where needed even after installation. You can easily reposition it by hand to highlight artwork, architectural features, or different areas of a room without any tools. This makes it particularly versatile for accent lighting or task lighting that you might want to adjust over time.
Will this work with my existing dimmer switch?
This fitting is dimmable, but compatibility depends on both your dimmer switch and the GU10 bulb you choose. Most modern LED dimmers will work well, but older dimmer switches designed for halogen bulbs may cause flickering or buzzing with LED GU10s. For best results, pair a dimmable LED GU10 bulb with a trailing-edge LED-compatible dimmer switch, and check the dimmer's minimum load matches your bulb wattage.
