Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Frequently Asked Questions
What type of bulb does the Fosco rattan table lamp require?
The Fosco table lamp requires a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb, which is not included. You can use LED, halogen or incandescent bulbs up to the maximum wattage specified on the lamp's label (typically 40-60W for table lamps of this size). We recommend a warm white LED bulb (2700K) to complement the natural rattan tones and create a cosy ambience.
Does this table lamp need to be hardwired or does it just plug in?
This is a plug-in table lamp with a standard UK three-pin plug—simply position it near a socket and switch on. No hardwiring or electrician is required under Part P regulations, making it completely DIY-friendly. The black cable runs from the base to your nearest mains outlet.
Can the Fosco table lamp be used with a dimmer switch?
Dimming capability depends entirely on the bulb you choose, as the lamp itself is operated via a standard on/off switch. If you use a dimmable LED bulb and plug the lamp into a trailing socket connected to a plug-in dimmer, you can control brightness. Note that non-dimmable LED bulbs will flicker or fail if used with dimming equipment.
What are the exact dimensions of this woven rattan table lamp?
The Fosco stands 38cm tall overall, making it ideal for bedside tables, console tables or side tables where you want ambient lighting without overwhelming the space. The woven rattan shade creates visual interest at eye level when seated, while the black metal base provides a stable footprint. Exact shade diameter is not specified, but the proportions suit compact to medium-sized surfaces.
Is this rattan lamp suitable for use in a bathroom?
No, this table lamp has no IP rating and is designed for dry indoor locations only. It is not safe for bathrooms or any area where it may be exposed to moisture or splashes. For bathroom lighting, you'll need fittings with a minimum IP44 rating (or IP65 for shower zones).
How much light does the woven shade let through, and is it bright enough for reading?
The open-weave rattan design creates decorative filtered light with attractive shadow patterns, but this is primarily an ambient or mood lamp rather than a task light. Actual brightness depends on your chosen bulb, but the woven shade will diffuse and reduce light output compared to an open fitting. For reading, we'd recommend pairing it with a dedicated reading lamp or positioning it as supplementary lighting alongside brighter sources.
