Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

What type of bulb does the Nankin bamboo pendant light require?
The Nankin uses a standard E27 screw bulb (not included). For best results with the natural bamboo shade, we recommend an E27 LED bulb in warm white (2700–3000K) with a maximum wattage of 40W. Globe or filament-style bulbs work particularly well as they complement the organic aesthetic when visible through the weave.
Can this pendant light be dimmed?
Dimming capability depends entirely on the bulb you install—the fitting itself is compatible with dimmable bulbs. If you fit a dimmable E27 LED bulb and have a compatible dimmer switch installed on your lighting circuit, you'll be able to adjust the brightness. Make sure your dimmer is rated for LED bulbs to avoid flickering.
Do I need an electrician to install this pendant light?
Under UK Building Regulations Part P, you can replace an existing pendant light fitting yourself on a like-for-like basis without notifying Building Control. However, if you're installing a new lighting circuit, adding a new ceiling point, or feel uncomfortable working with mains electricity, you must use a qualified electrician. Always isolate the mains supply at the consumer unit before attempting any work.
What are the exact dimensions and how low does it hang?
The bamboo shade measures 45cm in diameter. The cable suspension system is adjustable from 9cm to 60cm drop, giving you flexibility to suit different ceiling heights. When measuring the total drop, remember to add the shade height itself (approximately 35–40cm for the round bamboo structure) to your chosen cable length.
Is this bamboo pendant suitable for use in a bathroom?
No, the Nankin has no IP rating and is not suitable for bathroom use. Natural bamboo is not moisture-resistant, and the fitting is not sealed against water ingress required for bathroom zones. Use this pendant only in dry indoor locations such as living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, or dining areas.
What's the light output like—is it bright enough for a dining table?
The light output depends on your chosen bulb, but the woven bamboo shade will naturally diffuse and soften the brightness while casting decorative shadows. For a dining table, we'd recommend an E27 LED bulb of at least 806 lumens (equivalent to a traditional 60W incandescent) to provide adequate task lighting. The 3000K colour temperature creates a warm, inviting ambience perfect for dining spaces.
