Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Frequently Asked Questions
What type of bulb does the Jama rattan pendant take?
The Jama uses a standard E27 screw fitting, which is the most common large Edison screw bulb type in the UK. You can choose any E27 bulb you prefer — LED, filament, or halogen — allowing you to control the brightness, colour temperature, and energy efficiency. We'd recommend an LED filament bulb for a warm, ambient glow that complements the natural rattan weave.
Can I install this pendant light myself or do I need an electrician?
Under UK Building Regulations Part P, installing or replacing a ceiling light fitting is generally considered notifiable electrical work in some areas, particularly if it involves new circuits or work in kitchens or bathrooms. While many homeowners do replace like-for-like pendants themselves, if you're unsure about your existing wiring or don't have experience with electrical work, we strongly recommend hiring a qualified electrician. The fitting comes with mounting screws, plugs, and installation instructions.
Is the Jama pendant dimmable?
Dimming capability depends entirely on the bulb you choose, as the Jama itself is simply a shade with an E27 lampholder. If you use a dimmable E27 LED or filament bulb and have a compatible dimmer switch installed, you'll be able to dim the light. Make sure your dimmer switch is rated for LED bulbs if you're using LEDs, as older dimmer switches designed for halogens may not work properly.
What are the actual dimensions and how low will it hang?
The rattan shade itself is 30cm in diameter, making it ideal for smaller spaces, breakfast bars, or clustering in groups. The total drop height will depend on the length of flex or chain you use and how you wire it — the product comes as a shade and lampholder, so you'll need to factor in your ceiling rose setup and any adjustable cable you add. Most installations hang between 40–80cm from the ceiling, but this is adjustable during fitting.
Can I use this rattan pendant in a bathroom?
No, the Jama is not suitable for bathroom use as it has no IP rating and is not designed to withstand moisture or steam. Bathroom lighting must meet specific IP ratings depending on the zone — typically IP44 or higher near showers and baths. This pendant is best suited to dry indoor areas such as kitchens, dining rooms, bedrooms, or hallways.
Will the woven rattan give off enough light or will it be too dim?
The amount of light depends entirely on the bulb you choose, as the Jama is a shade only. The open weave of the rattan will create lovely patterned shadows but does allow plenty of light to escape, so it won't feel overly dim. For ambient lighting in a dining or living area, a 6–10W LED bulb (equivalent to 40–60W incandescent) works beautifully, while kitchens or task areas may benefit from a brighter 12–15W option.
