Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Mirage anthracite wall lantern require an electrician to install?
Yes, as this is a hardwired outdoor fitting, installation must comply with Part P of the Building Regulations. You'll need a qualified electrician or competent person to connect it safely to your mains supply and certify the work. The installation difficulty is rated as moderate, typically involving fixing to an external wall and connecting to an existing outdoor lighting circuit.
Is this outdoor lantern suitable for exposed locations and what does IP44 mean?
The Mirage carries an IP44 rating, making it protected against splashing water from any direction and suitable for most sheltered outdoor locations such as covered porches, under eaves, or recessed doorways. It's not fully weatherproof for completely exposed positions subject to driving rain, but will perform reliably in typical UK residential outdoor settings. The fitting operates in temperatures from -20°C to 40°C.
What bulb do I need for the Mirage wall lantern and is it dimmable?
You'll need one E27 ES (Edison Screw) bulb up to 60W maximum—the bulb is not included. The Mirage is dimmable when fitted with a dimmable E27 LED bulb and controlled by a trailing edge dimmer switch. For best results with the transparent glass diffuser, choose a warm white LED (2700K-3000K) in a traditional filament or candle style to complement the lantern aesthetic.
What are the exact dimensions of this anthracite wall lantern?
The Mirage measures 260mm in height, 130mm in width, and projects 130mm from the wall. At 1.8kg, it's a substantial fitting that requires secure fixing to brick, masonry, or timber cladding. These compact dimensions make it ideal for flanking a standard front door without overwhelming the entrance, or for spacing along a pathway or patio wall.
Can I use this lantern on a timber-clad wall or does it need brick?
Yes, the Mirage is suitable for mounting on timber cladding as well as brick and masonry surfaces. You'll need appropriate fixings for your chosen surface—typically wall plugs and screws for masonry, or wood screws directly into timber studs or cladding battens. Your electrician will ensure the 1.8kg weight is adequately supported and that cable entry is properly sealed to maintain the IP44 rating.
What warranty does the Mirage outdoor wall lantern come with?
This fitting is covered by a 2-year manufacturer's warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. It's CE marked and RoHS compliant, meeting UK safety and environmental standards. The warranty covers the lantern housing and electrical components, though bulbs are considered consumables and are not covered.
