Good to know
A few questions,
before it comes home.
Does this outdoor bulkhead light need to be installed by a qualified electrician?
Yes, the Stainless is a hardwired wall light and must be installed by a qualified electrician in compliance with UK Part P Building Regulations. The unit connects directly to your mains electrical supply at 230V and requires proper mounting to an outdoor-rated wall surface with appropriate cabling and weatherproofing.
Is this bulkhead light suitable for exposed outdoor locations in the rain?
Yes, with an IP44 rating, this fitting is protected against splashing water from any direction, making it suitable for covered porches, carports, and locations with some overhead protection. It's not fully waterproof (which would require IP65 or higher), so it's best positioned under eaves or canopies rather than in fully exposed locations subject to driving rain.
What bulb do I need for this outdoor wall light and is one included?
This fitting requires one E27 ES (Edison Screw) bulb with a maximum wattage of 60W, which is not included. You can use traditional incandescent, halogen, LED, or energy-saving bulbs in E27 fitting, allowing you to choose your preferred brightness and colour temperature to suit your outdoor space.
Can this bulkhead light be used with a dimmer switch?
Dimming capability depends entirely on the bulb you choose, not the fitting itself. If you install a dimmable LED or halogen E27 bulb and have a compatible dimmer switch on the circuit, the light can be dimmed. The fitting itself has no restrictions on dimming.
What are the exact dimensions of this oval bulkhead light?
The fitting measures 220mm wide, 130mm high, and projects 100mm from the wall when mounted. This compact oval profile makes it suitable for flanking doorways, mounting beside garage doors, or illuminating pathways without protruding excessively from the wall.
What warranty does this stainless steel outdoor light come with?
This outdoor bulkhead comes with a 5-year manufacturer's warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. The stainless steel and cast aluminium construction with glass diffuser is designed to withstand outdoor conditions, and the warranty provides reassurance for long-term outdoor use.
What colour and finish is the Vardo bulkhead and will it rust outdoors?
The Vardo features a polished stainless steel and cast aluminium construction with a clear glass diffuser, giving it a bright, reflective metallic appearance. The stainless steel is naturally corrosion-resistant and won't rust in typical UK weather conditions however not suitable for coastal enviroments, while the polished finish adds a premium aesthetic that complements both traditional and contemporary architecture. The marine-grade materials make it well-suited for coastal locations as well as standard garden and entrance applications.
