Good to know
A few questions,
before it comes home.
What dimmer switch do I need for the Marlowe E27 1800K bulb?
This bulb requires a trailing edge dimmer switch for smooth, flicker-free dimming. Standard rotary or older leading edge dimmers may cause buzzing or inconsistent performance. If you're installing a new dimmer circuit, you'll need a qualified electrician as it's notifiable work under Part P Building Regulations.
Is 450 lumens bright enough for a bedroom or living room?
At 450 lumens, this bulb produces soft ambient light rather than task lighting — ideal for bedside lamps, accent pendants, or creating mood lighting in a lounge. For general room illumination you'd typically need 1500+ lumens, so consider using multiple bulbs or pairing with other light sources. The ultra-warm 1800K colour temperature is designed for relaxed evening use, not bright working light.
Will this bulb fit my existing E27 lamp holder?
Yes, the Marlowe uses the standard E27 Edison Screw fitting found in most UK table lamps, pendants, and ceiling fittings. At 140mm tall and 64mm wide, it's larger than a standard GLS bulb, so check your shade has sufficient clearance — particularly important for enclosed or narrow shades.
How energy-efficient is the Marlowe bulb compared to a traditional incandescent?
At just 6 watts, the Marlowe uses approximately 90% less energy than a traditional 40-60W incandescent bulb whilst producing comparable light output (450 lumens). Over its lifetime, this translates to significant savings on your electricity bills — a 6W LED running 3 hours daily costs roughly £1.50 per year versus £15+ for an equivalent incandescent. The bulb is also RoHS compliant, meeting UK environmental standards for reduced hazardous materials.
How does 1800K compare to a normal warm white bulb?
At 1800K, this bulb produces a deep amber, candlelight glow — much warmer than standard warm white bulbs (2700–3000K). It's designed for intimate, cosy atmospheres rather than functional lighting, giving a rich orange-gold tone similar to firelight or old incandescent filament bulbs. This makes it perfect for evening relaxation but too warm for tasks like reading or cooking.
What's the warranty on this LED bulb and what does it cover?
The Marlowe comes with a 2-year manufacturer's warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. This includes premature LED failure, dimming faults, or manufacturing defects, but excludes damage from incorrect installation, incompatible dimmers, or general wear and tear. Keep your proof of purchase for any warranty claims.
