Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Questions
Does the Galway wall lantern need to be installed by a qualified electrician?
Yes, as a hardwired Class I fitting, the Galway must be installed by a competent person in compliance with UK Building Regulations Part P. The fitting requires connection to mains electrical supply and must be properly earthed. If you're installing it outdoors or replacing an existing outdoor light, it's advisable to use a qualified electrician to ensure weatherproof connections and compliance with the IP44 rating.
Is this wall lantern suitable for exposed outdoor locations?
Yes, with an IP44 rating, this fitting is protected against splashing water from any direction, making it suitable for covered porches, under eaves, or partially sheltered outdoor walls. It's not fully weatherproof for completely exposed positions subject to heavy rain or direct water jets. The rust brown aluminium construction provides durability in typical UK outdoor conditions.
What type of bulb does this lantern take and can it be dimmed?
The Galway uses a standard E27 ES (Edison Screw) bulb with a maximum wattage of 15W. The specifications don't indicate dimming capability, so it will depend on whether you install a dimmable bulb and have a compatible dimmer switch fitted. LED E27 bulbs up to 15W are recommended for energy efficiency and longevity in outdoor conditions.
What are the exact dimensions of this wall lantern?
The fitting measures 248mm in height, 130mm in width, and projects 122mm from the wall. These compact dimensions make it suitable for modest entryways, porches, or beside doorways where you need outdoor lighting without a bulky fixture.
Can I use a smart bulb with this outdoor wall light?
Yes, as long as you use an E27 smart bulb rated at 15W or below. Since the fitting itself is a simple fixed installation, you can control lighting functions through a compatible smart bulb. Just ensure any smart bulb you choose is suitable for outdoor use or at least rated for the temperature range in your installation location.
What's the maximum brightness I can achieve with the 15W bulb limit?
With a 15W maximum, you're limited to around 1,200-1,500 lumens if using an LED E27 bulb, which provides adequate illumination for doorways, pathways, or accent lighting. This wattage restriction is typical for decorative outdoor lanterns where ambience matters more than high-intensity lighting. For comparison, this is roughly equivalent to a traditional 100W incandescent bulb in light output.
The Enso Standard
Anyone can sell you a light.
We’d rather sell you the right one.
Lighting, considered.
Chosen, not stocked
For every piece here, we passed on hundreds. If a fitting doesn’t earn its place, it isn’t here.
Curation is mostly the art of saying no.
Held to one standard
Copenhagen brass or precision-built LED — every piece is vetted the same way: finish, build, light quality, safety. If it doesn’t pass, it doesn’t stay.
The standard doesn’t care what a light costs.
Nothing left to guess
Every dimension, bulb, IP rating and install note published before you buy — you and your electrician know exactly what arrives.
The spec sheet is the love letter.
Backed, properly
Two-year warranty as standard, 30-day returns. If something isn’t right, we’d rather know — and put it right.
A fitting should outlast the fashion that chose it.
