Lyon

Yes, as this is a mains-wired Class I outdoor wall light, installation must comply with Part P of the Building Regulations. Unless you're a competent person registered with a self-certification scheme, you'll need a qualified electrician to carry out the installation and certify the work. The light requires a proper earth connection and will typically mount to a standard BESA box or wall back plate.

This wall light has an IP44 rating, which provides protection against solid objects over 1mm and water splashes from any direction. It's suitable for covered porches, under eaves, or areas with some shelter, but IP44 is not rated for fully exposed locations subject to driving rain or water jets. For best longevity, install it in a position with some overhead protection.

This light requires an E27 ES (Edison Screw) bulb with a maximum wattage of 60W, which is not included. You can use standard E27 LED, halogen, or incandescent bulbs up to 60W, giving you flexibility to choose your preferred light output and colour temperature. For outdoor use, an LED bulb is recommended for energy efficiency and longer lifespan in varying temperatures.

While you can physically fit a dimmable E27 bulb, dimming functionality is not practical with this fitting as it's controlled by a PIR motion sensor that switches the light on and off automatically. The sensor activates the light at full brightness when motion is detected, so dimming features would not be accessible during normal operation.

The Lyon PIR wall light measures 120mm wide, 154mm deep (projection from wall), and 320mm tall. The 154mm depth means it extends about 15cm from the wall surface, so ensure you have adequate clearance from doorways, pathways, or windows. The compact height of 32cm makes it suitable for positioning beside entrance doors or garage areas without overwhelming the space.

While this product includes a PIR motion sensor for automatic activation, the specific detection range and adjustment capabilities aren't detailed in the manufacturer's specifications. Most PIR wall lights of this type offer detection ranges of 5-10 metres with some degree of sensitivity adjustment, but you should verify the exact specifications with the supplier before purchase if sensor customisation is critical for your installation location.
