What type of bulbs does the Noir five-light ceiling light take and are they included?
The Noir requires five G9 capsule bulbs with a maximum wattage of 9W each. Bulbs are not included, so you'll need to purchase them separately. G9 bulbs are widely available in LED form, and we recommend dimmable G9 LEDs if you plan to use a dimmer switch.
Can this ceiling light be dimmed and what type of dimmer do I need?
Yes, the Noir is dimmable when fitted with dimmable G9 bulbs. You'll need a trailing edge dimmer switch to avoid flickering or buzzing, as this type is specifically designed for LED and low-wattage bulbs. Standard rotary dimmers may not work properly with modern LED G9 capsules.
Do I need an electrician to install this ceiling light?
Yes, an electrician is required for installation as this is a hardwired Class I fitting that must be connected directly to your mains supply. Under UK Building Regulations Part P, all new fixed electrical installations in dwellings must be installed by a qualified electrician or certified under a competent person scheme. The fitting is suitable for plasterboard, timber joist, or concrete ceilings.
What are the dimensions and how much clearance do I need?
The Noir measures 500mm wide and 265mm in total height from the ceiling. You'll need to ensure you have adequate ceiling height, as this surface-mounted fitting will hang down 265mm, making it more suitable for standard or high ceilings rather than low-ceilinged rooms where head clearance might be an issue.
Can this light be used in a bathroom?
No, the Noir has an IP20 rating, which means it's only suitable for dry indoor locations and not certified for bathroom use. Bathrooms require higher IP ratings (typically IP44 or above) depending on the zone, and this fitting lacks the necessary moisture protection for wet or humid environments.
