Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Frequently Asked Questions
What type of bulb does the Perna bamboo pendant take and is it included?
The Perna uses a standard E27 Edison screw bulb, which is not included so you can choose your preferred brightness and colour temperature. We recommend an LED bulb of 8–10W for ambient lighting, or up to 15W if you're using it as a primary light source over a dining table or kitchen island. The open slat design works beautifully with both warm white (2700K) and soft white (3000K) bulbs.
Can this bamboo pendant be used with a dimmer switch?
Dimming capability depends entirely on the bulb you choose, as the fitting itself is compatible with dimmable circuits. If you install a dimmable LED E27 bulb and have a suitable LED-compatible dimmer switch already fitted, you'll be able to dim the light. Always check the bulb packaging confirms it's dimmable and match it to your dimmer type to avoid flickering.
Does installing the Perna pendant require an electrician under Part P regulations?
If you're simply replacing an existing pendant on an already-wired ceiling rose or junction box, this is generally considered a like-for-like swap and does not require Building Regulations notification in England and Wales, though it must still be done safely. However, if you're installing a new lighting circuit or moving the light position, this is notifiable electrical work under Part P and must be completed by a qualified electrician or certified competent person. Always isolate the mains supply before any work.
What are the full dimensions and how much drop does the cable have?
The shade itself is 40cm in diameter, making it well-suited to kitchen islands, dining tables, or reading corners without overwhelming the space. The suspension cable length is not specified in the product details, but most pendants of this type include approximately 100–120cm of flex that can be shortened during installation to suit your ceiling height. Check the packaging on arrival or contact us if you need a specific drop measurement before fitting.
Is this bamboo pendant suitable for a bathroom or outdoor use?
No, the Perna is not rated for bathrooms or outdoor installation. It has no stated IP rating, meaning it's designed for dry indoor locations only and should not be exposed to moisture, steam, or weather. For bathrooms you'd need a minimum IP44 rating (IP65 for shower zones), and for outdoor use IP65 is the minimum depending on exposure.
Will the bamboo slats cast strong shadows or is the light diffused?
The Perna features an openwork design with carefully spaced bamboo slats, so it will cast captivating linear shadows on surrounding walls and ceilings—this is a key part of its visual appeal. The light is not diffused, so expect a textured, patterned glow rather than soft ambient illumination. If you want to soften the effect slightly, choose a frosted or opal LED bulb instead of a clear filament style.
