Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Frequently Asked Questions
What type of bulb does the Saranne rattan pendant take and is it included?
The Saranne requires a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb, which is not included in the box. You can use any E27 bulb up to the maximum wattage specified on the fitting's label—typically LED, halogen, or filament styles work well. For the best effect with the open weave design, we'd recommend a warm white LED (2700K) or a decorative filament bulb to complement the natural rattan tones.
Can this pendant light be used with a dimmer switch?
Dimming capability depends entirely on the bulb you choose, as the Saranne itself is a passive shade fitting. If you install a dimmable E27 bulb and have a compatible dimmer switch already fitted, you'll be able to dim the light. Always check that your bulb is marked as dimmable and that it's compatible with your specific dimmer type (leading-edge or trailing-edge).
Do I need an electrician to install this rattan pendant light?
If you're replacing an existing pendant on a ceiling rose or hook, it's a straightforward swap that many competent DIYers can manage safely with the power isolated at the consumer unit. However, if you're installing a new ceiling point, moving the position, or you're uncomfortable working with mains electricity, you must use a qualified electrician—and any new circuits or points require certification under Part P of the Building Regulations. Always isolate the power before attempting any electrical work.
What's the total drop height from ceiling to bottom of the shade?
The shade itself is 57cm in diameter, but the total drop depends on the length of cable or chain you use and how you suspend it. The Saranne is supplied as a shade only, so you'll need to pair it with a ceiling rose, hook, or pendant set with adjustable cable to achieve your desired drop height. Most installations over dining tables work well with a drop that positions the bottom of the shade around 70–90cm above the table surface.
Is this pendant suitable for a bathroom or outdoor use?
No, the Saranne is not rated for bathroom zones or outdoor use. It has no IP rating and the natural rattan material is not moisture-resistant, so it should only be used in dry indoor areas such as living rooms, dining rooms, hallways, or bedrooms. Exposure to steam or moisture will damage the rattan and may pose an electrical safety risk.
How much light does the 57cm rattan pendant give off?
The amount of light depends entirely on the E27 bulb you fit, as the Saranne is a shade only. The openwork rattan weave will soften and diffuse the light, casting lovely dappled shadows, but it will reduce overall brightness compared to an exposed bulb. For ambient lighting over a dining table, a 600–800 lumen warm white LED (equivalent to a 60W incandescent) usually works well, though you may want higher output for task lighting or larger rooms.
