Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Frequently Asked Questions
What type of bulb does the Vitang rattan pendant take and is it included?
The Vitang uses a standard E27 screw-in bulb, which is not included so you can choose your preferred style and brightness. E27 is the most common large Edison screw fitting in the UK, giving you full flexibility over wattage, colour temperature, and whether you opt for LED, halogen, or filament bulbs. We recommend a warm white LED (2700K-3000K) to complement the natural rattan texture.
Can this pendant light be used with a dimmer switch?
Dimmability depends entirely on the bulb you install, not the fitting itself. If you fit a dimmable LED or halogen E27 bulb and have a compatible dimmer switch already installed, the light will dim smoothly. Always check your bulb packaging confirms it's dimmable and matches your dimmer type (leading-edge or trailing-edge).
Does this rattan pendant need to be installed by an electrician?
If you're replacing an existing ceiling light fitting on the same circuit, this is generally considered minor work and many competent DIYers do it themselves, though you remain responsible for safety and compliance. However, if you're installing a new circuit or aren't confident working with mains electricity, you must use a qualified electrician, and any new circuits must comply with Part P of the Building Regulations. Always isolate the mains supply before starting any electrical work.
What are the full dimensions and minimum ceiling height needed for the 41cm Vitang pendant?
The pendant measures 41cm in diameter, making it substantial enough for dining tables or kitchen islands typically 120-180cm wide. You'll need to check the total drop height (cable length plus shade depth) once you receive it, but as a rule of thumb, allow at least 2.1m floor-to-ceiling clearance to avoid head strikes, with the bottom of the shade ideally 75-85cm above your table surface for comfortable dining.
Is the Vitang rattan pendant suitable for bathrooms or outdoor use?
No, this pendant has no stated IP rating, meaning it's designed for dry, indoor locations only such as living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms. It is not suitable for bathrooms (which require minimum IP44 in zones) or any outdoor or damp environments, as moisture will damage both the rattan and the electrical components.
What kind of light does the rattan shade produce – will it be very dim or patchy?
The open rattan weave creates a beautiful dappled, textured light with natural shadows cast across ceilings and walls, rather than bright, even illumination. This decorative effect is ideal for ambient mood lighting over dining tables, but you'll likely want additional light sources (wall lights, lamps, or downlights) for tasks like reading or food preparation. The light output and brightness depend entirely on the bulb wattage and lumens you choose to install.
