What type of bulb does the Aya pendant light take and is it included?
The Aya uses a standard E27 screw-in bulb with a maximum wattage of 12W, and the bulb is not included with the fitting. We recommend an E27 LED bulb in warm white (2700K-3000K) to complement the soft beige fabric shade. The fitting accepts any E27 bulb up to 12W, so you can choose your preferred colour temperature and brightness level.
Can this pendant light be dimmed?
Yes, the Aya is dimmable when paired with a dimmable E27 bulb and a trailing edge dimmer switch. You'll need to ensure both the bulb you purchase is marked as dimmable and that your dimmer is a trailing edge type (also called electronic low voltage), as this works best with LED bulbs. The fitting itself is dimmer-compatible, but dimming functionality depends on your choice of bulb and dimmer switch.
Do I need an electrician to install this pendant light?
Yes, as this is a hardwired Class I fitting, installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician in compliance with UK Building Regulations Part P. The installation itself is straightforward—it mounts to a standard ceiling rose or BESA box and is suitable for plasterboard, timber joist, or concrete ceilings. While it's rated as easy to install for a professional, it's not a plug-in fitting and requires mains wiring connection.
What are the dimensions and is the cable length adjustable?
The fabric drum shade measures 40 cm in diameter with a total drop height of 1500 mm (1.5 metres) from ceiling to base of shade. The suspension cable is 1.5 metres long and is height-adjustable, so you can shorten it to suit your ceiling height and preferred hanging position. This makes it particularly versatile for use above dining tables or kitchen islands where you may want to customise the drop.
Can I use this pendant in a bathroom or kitchen?
The Aya has an IP20 rating, which means it's only suitable for dry indoor locations and should not be installed in bathrooms, particularly not within zones 1 or 2 where moisture is present. It's perfectly suited to kitchens away from direct water sources, as well as living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms. For bathrooms, you'd need a fitting with a minimum IP44 rating depending on the zone.
What warranty does this light come with?
The Aya Fabric Drum Pendant Light comes with a 2-year manufacturer's warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. The fitting is CE marked and RoHS compliant, meeting all relevant UK safety standards. Note that the warranty covers the light fitting itself; bulbs are considered consumables and are not covered under the warranty.
