Does the Calla pendant light require a qualified electrician to install?
Yes, as this is a Class I hardwired ceiling pendant, it must be installed by a qualified electrician in compliance with UK Building Regulations Part P. The fitting connects directly to your mains ceiling rose or BESA box and requires earthing. DIY installation of mains voltage lighting is not permitted unless you are competent and notify Building Control.
What type of bulbs does this pendant take and are they included?
The Calla requires 6 x G9 capsule bulbs with a maximum wattage of 6W each. Bulbs are not included with the fitting, so you'll need to purchase them separately. G9 LED bulbs are widely available and recommended for energy efficiency and long life.
Can this pendant light be used with a dimmer switch?
Dimming capability depends entirely on the G9 bulbs you install, not the fitting itself. If you choose dimmable G9 LED bulbs and have a compatible LED dimmer switch installed, the light can be dimmed. Standard non-dimmable G9 bulbs will not work with a dimmer and may flicker or fail.
What are the dimensions and how much ceiling height do I need?
The fitting measures 1200mm wide, 900mm deep, and has a drop height of 310mm from the ceiling. You should ensure you have adequate ceiling height so the pendant hangs comfortably above head height—typically at least 2.1m floor-to-bottom clearance in circulation areas, or higher above dining tables.
Is this pendant light suitable for a bathroom?
No, the Calla has an IP20 rating, which means it offers no protection against moisture and is only suitable for dry indoor locations. For bathroom use, you would need a fitting rated IP44 or higher depending on the zone. This pendant is ideal for living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, or hallways.
What colour temperature should I choose for the G9 bulbs?
Colour temperature is a personal preference and depends on the room's purpose. Warm white (2700-3000K) creates a cosy, relaxing ambience ideal for living and dining rooms, while cool white (4000K+) is brighter and better suited to task-oriented spaces. Since the Calla has clear glass globes, the bulb colour will be visible, so consider how the light tone complements the gold finish.
