Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Gatsby wall light require an electrician to install?
Yes, this is a mains-wired wall light that must be installed by a qualified electrician in compliance with UK Building Regulations Part P. The fitting connects directly to your mains electrical supply and should be mounted to a standard wall plate or BESA box. Installation instructions are included in the box along with mounting screws and plugs.
What type of bulb does this wall light take and is it included?
The product specifications don't list a specific bulb type or fitting (E27, E14, B22, etc.), so you'll need to check the lamp holder inside the glass shade upon delivery or contact the retailer before purchase. Bulbs are not typically included with decorative wall fittings unless stated in the "What's in the box" section, which only lists the sconce, fixings, and instructions.
Can I use the Gatsby wall light in a bathroom?
No, this wall light has an IP20 rating, which means it's only protected against solid objects larger than 12.5mm and has no moisture protection whatsoever. It's strictly for use in dry indoor locations like hallways, living rooms, and bedrooms—not bathrooms, kitchens near sinks, or any area where it may be exposed to steam or splashes.
Is the Gatsby Art Deco wall light dimmable?
Dimmability depends entirely on the bulb you choose, as the specifications don't indicate a built-in dimmer or dimmer compatibility for the fitting itself. If you install a dimmable LED or halogen bulb and have a compatible dimmer switch on your lighting circuit, you should be able to dim the light. Always check your bulb packaging confirms it's dimmable before use.
What are the exact dimensions of this wall light?
The Gatsby measures 320mm in height, 120mm in depth (projection from the wall), and weighs 2,800g. This makes it a statement piece that will stand out noticeably from the wall, so ensure you have adequate clearance in hallways or beside furniture before installation.
How much wall space do I need to leave around the Gatsby wall light?
The Gatsby projects 120mm from the wall and stands 320mm tall, so you'll want to ensure at least 150mm clearance on either side and above to avoid the fitting looking cramped or interfering with adjacent frames, switches, or doorways. Below the light, leave enough space that the glass shade isn't at risk from passing traffic—typically at least 200mm from head height in hallways. The 2,800g weight means it must be fixed to a solid wall or into sturdy wall plugs, not plasterboard alone.
