Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Genesis spotlight need to be installed by a qualified electrician?
Yes, as this is a hardwired ceiling spotlight, installation must comply with Part P of the Building Regulations in England and Wales. Unless you're a competent person registered with an electrical self-certification scheme, you'll need a qualified electrician to carry out the wiring and issue the necessary certification. The fitting mounts flush to the ceiling and connects directly to your mains circuit.
What type of bulb does this spotlight take and is one included?
The Genesis uses a standard GU10 bulb with a maximum wattage of 35W, but no bulb is included in the box. You can choose any GU10 lamp to suit your needs—LED GU10s are recommended for energy efficiency and longevity. Because the fitting is dimmable, pair it with a dimmable GU10 bulb and a compatible dimmer switch for full control over brightness.
Can this spotlight be used with a dimmer switch?
Yes, the Genesis is fully dimmable when paired with a dimmable GU10 bulb and an appropriate dimmer switch. Ensure your dimmer is compatible with the type of bulb you choose—LED GU10s require LED-compatible dimmers, while halogen GU10s work with standard trailing-edge dimmers. The fitting itself supports dimming up to its maximum 35W load.
What are the dimensions and how much ceiling space does it require?
The Genesis measures 155mm in diameter and 60mm in height, making it compact enough for standard ceiling heights without protruding excessively. It's designed for flush mounting, so you'll need a standard ceiling void with enough depth to accommodate the lampholder and wiring connections. The 155mm diameter also means it will cover a typical BESA box or ceiling rose opening.
Is this spotlight suitable for bathroom use?
No, this spotlight is rated for indoor use only and lacks an IP rating for moisture protection, making it unsuitable for bathrooms. For safe bathroom installation, you'd need a fitting with at least an IP44 rating (IP65 for shower zones). The Genesis is ideal for living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, and kitchens where moisture and water jets aren't a concern.
How adjustable is the spotlight head and what's the rotation range?
The Genesis offers 330° rotation, allowing you to tilt and swivel the head to direct light precisely where needed. This makes it ideal for accent lighting, highlighting artwork, or focusing light on specific work areas like kitchen worktops or reading chairs. The aluminium construction ensures the head stays firmly in position once adjusted without drooping over time.
