Yes, the Riba is hardwired and must be installed by a qualified electrician in compliance with UK Building Regulations Part P. The installation involves connecting mains wiring directly to the fitting, which is notifiable electrical work. Most electricians will find it a moderate difficulty job, and the fitting is suitable for mounting on plasterboard, timber joists, or concrete ceilings.
What type of bulb does the Riba 40cm ceiling light take?
The Riba uses a standard E27 screw-in bulb (also called an Edison Screw), with a maximum wattage of 7W. The bulb is not included, so you'll need to purchase one separately. For best results with the ribbed shade design, choose an E27 LED bulb with a warm white colour temperature (2700K-3000K).
Can the Riba white ceiling light be dimmed?
Yes, the Riba is dimmable when fitted with a compatible dimmable E27 bulb. You'll need to install a trailing edge dimmer switch to control the brightness smoothly without flickering. Both the dimmer and the dimmable bulb must be purchased separately, as neither is included with the fitting.
Is the Riba ceiling light suitable for a bathroom?
No, the Riba has an IP20 rating, which means it's not protected against moisture and is only suitable for dry indoor locations. It cannot be used in bathrooms or any areas where it may be exposed to water or high humidity. For bathrooms, you'll need a fitting with a minimum IP44 rating (or IP65 for shower zones).
What are the dimensions of the 40cm Riba ceiling light?
