Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Does the Cayo industrial cage light need to be installed by a qualified electrician?
Yes, as a Class I hardwired ceiling fitting, installation must comply with Part P of the Building Regulations. Unless you're a competent person registered with a self-certification scheme, you'll need a qualified electrician to connect it safely to your mains circuit and ensure proper earthing. The Cayo mounts to a standard ceiling rose or BESA box.
What type of bulb does this fitting take and is it dimmable?
The Cayo uses a standard E27 Edison Screw (ES) bulb with a maximum wattage of 40W. Dimming capability depends entirely on the bulb you choose and whether you have a compatible dimmer switch installed—the fitting itself will work with dimmable LED, halogen, or filament E27 bulbs. For an industrial look, an exposed filament LED or vintage-style bulb works particularly well with the cage design.
Can I use this industrial cage light in a bathroom?
No, the Cayo has an IP20 rating, which means it's only suitable for general indoor use in dry areas. Bathrooms require a minimum of IP44 (or IP65 in shower zones), so this fitting isn't appropriate for bathroom installation due to moisture and splash risks.
What are the dimensions of the Cayo cage ceiling light?

How bright will this ceiling light be and what colour temperature should I choose?
Brightness depends entirely on your bulb choice, as the Cayo accommodates any E27 bulb up to 40W. For reference, a 6W LED typically produces around 470 lumens (equivalent to an old 40W incandescent), suitable for mood lighting or smaller rooms. For task lighting or larger spaces, consider a 10-12W LED (800-1000 lumens), and choose 2700K for warm white, 3000K for neutral, or 4000K for cool white depending on your room's purpose.
Is this fitting suitable for sloped or angled ceilings?
The Cayo is a surface-mount ceiling fitting designed for flat, horizontal surfaces. It's not recommended for sloped ceilings unless you install an angled ceiling adaptor or mounting plate specifically designed to create a level surface. Without this, the cage will hang at an angle, which may look awkward and could affect the bulb positioning.
