Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Luminar box mount spotlight come with a GU10 bulb or do I need to buy one separately?
No bulb is included with this fitting, so you'll need to purchase a GU10 bulb separately. The spotlight accepts any standard GU10 lamp up to a maximum of 60W, giving you flexibility to choose your preferred brightness and colour temperature. For a warm, inviting glow we'd recommend a 2700K–3000K GU10 LED in the 4–6W range (roughly 350–500 lumens).
Can this spotlight be dimmed and what type of dimmer switch do I need?
Yes, the Luminar is dimmable, but you'll need to use a dimmable GU10 bulb (not all GU10 LEDs are dimmable) and install a trailing edge dimmer switch. Trailing edge dimmers are specifically designed for LED loads and prevent flickering or buzzing. Always check your chosen bulb's packaging confirms it's dimmable and compatible with trailing edge control.
Do I need an electrician to install this ceiling spotlight or can I fit it myself?
You'll need a qualified electrician to install this spotlight as it's hardwired directly into the mains supply. Under UK Building Regulations Part P, new connections or alterations to fixed lighting circuits in most rooms must be installed or certified by a registered competent person. The fitting mounts via a box mount bracket (BESA box compatible) and installation difficulty is rated as moderate.
What are the dimensions of this spotlight and how far does it protrude from the ceiling?
The Luminar measures 60mm wide × 50mm in diameter with a height of 100mm, meaning it will protrude approximately 10cm from your ceiling surface once installed. This compact cylindrical profile makes it ideal for standard ceiling heights without dominating the space. At 2kg, it's a solid metal fitting that requires secure mounting into a joist or ceiling box.
Is this spotlight suitable for bathroom use or does it need a higher IP rating?
No, this spotlight is rated IP20 and is only suitable for indoor use in dry environments such as living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, and kitchens. It is not suitable for bathrooms or any moisture-prone areas, which require a minimum of IP44 (or IP65 for zones 1 and 2). For bathroom ceiling spotlights, look for fittings with appropriate IP ratings and zone certifications.
What warranty does the Luminar spotlight come with and is it CE marked?
This fitting comes with a 2-year manufacturer's warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. It is CE marked and RoHS compliant, meeting all relevant UK safety and environmental standards. The spotlight is Class I, meaning it requires an earth connection for safe operation, which your electrician will ensure during installation.
