Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Mirage outdoor lantern require an electrician to install?
Yes, as this is a hardwired outdoor light fitting, it must be installed by a qualified electrician in compliance with UK Building Regulations Part P. The installation involves connecting to mains wiring and securing the fitting to a suitable porch ceiling or overhead surface, which is classified as moderate difficulty. The lantern comes with a 0.9m cable for connection to your electrical supply.
Is IP44 suitable for an exposed outdoor porch?
IP44 is suitable for covered outdoor locations such as porches, verandas and pergolas where the lantern is protected from direct rainfall. It provides protection against splashing water and solid objects larger than 1mm, but is not designed for fully exposed positions subject to driving rain or submersion. The Mirage operates reliably in temperatures from -20°C to +40°C, covering typical UK outdoor conditions.
What type of bulb does this lantern take and is it dimmable?
The Mirage uses a single E27 ES (Edison Screw) bulb up to 60W maximum, which is not included. The fitting is dimmable when paired with a dimmable E27 bulb and a trailing edge dimmer switch, allowing you to adjust the light level to suit the occasion. Choose a warm white LED bulb for the most welcoming outdoor ambience.
What are the exact dimensions and how low will it hang?
The lantern measures 130mm wide by 130mm deep and 900mm in total height, including the adjustable suspension cable. The 0.9m cable allows you to set the drop height to suit your porch ceiling, so you can position it at the ideal level to illuminate your entrance without guests having to duck underneath. The compact footprint suits standard-width porches and doorways.
Can I mount this lantern on a sloped porch ceiling or pergola beam?
Yes, the Mirage can be mounted on suitable surfaces including timber beams and masonry, though it's designed primarily for horizontal porch ceilings. If mounting to a sloped surface or angled beam, your electrician will need to ensure the fixing point is structurally sound and that the lantern can hang vertically without obstruction. The anthracite metal construction is robust enough for overhead timber or masonry installation.
What warranty does this outdoor lantern come with?
The Mirage outdoor hanging lantern is covered by a 2-year manufacturer's warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. It is CE marked and RoHS compliant, meeting UK safety and environmental standards. The Class I electrical rating means it must be earthed during installation for safe operation.
