Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Palmite rattan pendant light require an electrician to install?
Yes, as this is a hardwired ceiling pendant, installation must comply with Part P of the Building Regulations in England and Wales. Unless you're a qualified electrician or competent person, you'll need to hire a registered sparks to connect it safely to your ceiling rose or junction box. The fitting comes with a 0.6m cable and is designed to suspend from a standard BESA box or ceiling hook.
Can this natural rattan pendant be used with a dimmer switch?
No, the Palmite itself is not dimmable according to the specifications. While you can physically install a dimmer switch, the fitting is not designed to support dimming functionality, so we don't recommend attempting it. If adjustable brightness is essential, you'd need to consider a different pendant that's explicitly rated as dimmable.
What size bulb does the 23cm rattan pendant take and is one included?
The Palmite uses a standard E27 Edison Screw (ES) bulb, and one is not included with the fitting. For the best effect with the natural rattan weave, we'd recommend a warm white LED bulb (2700K-3000K) with around 400-600 lumens to create that soft, filtered glow. The single lampholder accommodates most standard E27 bulb shapes, though avoid oversized globes that might look disproportionate in a 23cm sphere.
What are the exact dimensions of this spherical pendant and how low will it hang?
The Palmite measures 23cm in diameter (width) and 22cm in height, making it a compact sphere that works well in smaller spaces or grouped in multiples. With the 0.6m cable, the bottom of the shade will sit roughly 80-82cm below your ceiling rose, though this can be shortened if needed during installation. It's ideally suited to ceiling heights between 2.0–2.4m to maintain comfortable head clearance.
Is this natural rattan light suitable for bathrooms?
No, the Palmite has no stated IP rating and is classified as indoor use only, so it's not suitable for bathrooms where moisture and splash zones require IP44 or higher protection. The natural rattan material would also be susceptible to warping or mould in high-humidity environments. Stick to the recommended rooms: living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, hallways, and hospitality spaces with normal humidity levels.
How much light does this woven pendant actually give off?
The light output depends entirely on the E27 bulb you install, as none is included. However, the hand-woven rattan weave will naturally diffuse and filter the light, creating a softer, dappled effect rather than bright task lighting. Expect omnidirectional filtered light with decorative shadows—perfect for ambient mood lighting in dining or living areas, but you'll likely need supplementary lighting for tasks like reading or food prep.
