Crafted with a slender antique brass frame and clear ribbed glass shade, the Solene measures 200mm in diameter with an adjustable chain drop from 500mm to 1900mm to suit almost any ceiling height. The fitting accepts a dimmable E27 LED bulb (sold separately) up to 10W — pair with a warm-white opal or filament bulb for the softest, most diffused light.

It connects directly to your mains ceiling wiring, typically via a BESA box or ceiling rose. If you're replacing an existing pendant in the same position, the installation is usually straightforward, but any new wiring or circuit work requires certification.
What type of bulb does the Mateo ribbed glass pendant take?
The Solene uses a single E27 Edison Screw (ES) bulb, which is the standard large screw fitting widely available in the UK. It accepts up to 10W, so you can use LED, filament, or decorative bulbs as long as they don't exceed this wattage. The clear ribbed glass works beautifully with warm white vintage-style filament bulbs to emphasise the vertical fluting.
Can I use a dimmer switch with the Mateo pendant?
The fitting itself is compatible with dimmer switches, but whether you can dim it depends entirely on the bulb you choose. You'll need to fit a dimmable E27 LED or filament bulb and pair it with an appropriate LED-compatible dimmer switch. Always check the bulb packaging confirms it's dimmable before purchasing.
What are the dimensions of the Mateo pendant and how low does it hang?
The glass shade measures 200mm in both diameter and height, with a total drop of 1.2m from the ceiling rose to the bottom of the shade (including the 1.4m adjustable cable). The manufacturer recommends hanging it so the bottom sits 1.6–2.0m above floor level, making it ideal over dining tables, in stairwells, or in rooms with standard to high ceilings.
Is the Mateo pendant suitable for bathrooms?
No, the Solene has an IP20 rating, which means it's only suitable for dry indoor locations and offers no protection against moisture. It cannot be used in bathrooms or any areas where it might be exposed to steam or water splashes. For bathroom lighting, you'll need fittings rated IP44 or higher depending on the zone.
What size room works best with the Mateo ribbed glass pendant?
With a 200mm diameter and single 10W lampholder, the Solene works best as ambient or accent lighting in small to medium spaces, or as task lighting over a dining table or kitchen island.
