Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Questions
Can I install this IP65 downlight in a bathroom shower enclosure?
Yes, the Valo is rated IP65 and certified for bathroom Zone 1, which means it's safe to install directly above a bath or shower where it may be exposed to water jets. The IP65 rating provides full protection against moisture ingress, making it ideal for wet room applications. As with any bathroom electrical work, installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician in compliance with Part P Building Regulations.
Do I need an electrician to install this fire-rated downlight?
Yes, as this is a hardwired mains fitting, installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with Part P of the Building Regulations. The fire-rated design requires proper integration with your ceiling void to maintain fire integrity, and mains voltage connections must be carried out safely. The integral driver is built in, so no separate transformer is required.
What bulbs do I need to buy for this LED downlight?
None — this is an integrated LED downlight with the LED module built into the fitting, so there are no separate bulbs to buy or replace. The 5W LED provides 550 lumens and is designed to last approximately 30,000 hours of use. If the LED eventually fails after many years, the entire fitting would need replacing rather than just a bulb.
Can I dim this downlight and what type of dimmer switch do I need?
Yes, this downlight is dimmable and requires a trailing edge LED dimmer switch for smooth, flicker-free dimming. Standard rotary or older leading edge dimmers designed for halogen bulbs will not work properly and may cause flickering or buzzing. Make sure your electrician installs a compatible trailing edge dimmer rated for LED loads.
What size hole do I need to cut in the ceiling for installation?
You'll need to cut a hole slightly larger than the 82mm diameter of the fitting itself — the exact cut-out size will be specified in the installation instructions, but typically around 65-70mm for this size of downlight. The fitting requires a minimum ceiling void depth of at least 49mm to accommodate the driver and housing. The visible trim diameter is 82mm and sits flush with the ceiling surface.
What's the difference between 3000K, 4000K, and 6000K colour temperatures?
This downlight has a switchable colour temperature feature: 3000K gives a warm white glow similar to traditional bulbs (ideal for living rooms and bedrooms), 4000K provides a neutral cool white (good for kitchens and bathrooms), and 6000K produces a crisp daylight white (best for task lighting). You select your preferred colour temperature using a switch on the fitting before installation, so choose based on the room's purpose and the ambience you want to create.
The Enso Standard
Anyone can sell you a light.
We’d rather sell you the right one.
Lighting, considered.
Chosen, not stocked
For every piece here, we passed on hundreds. If a fitting doesn’t earn its place, it isn’t here.
Curation is mostly the art of saying no.
Held to one standard
Copenhagen brass or precision-built LED — every piece is vetted the same way: finish, build, light quality, safety. If it doesn’t pass, it doesn’t stay.
The standard doesn’t care what a light costs.
Nothing left to guess
Every dimension, bulb, IP rating and install note published before you buy — you and your electrician know exactly what arrives.
The spec sheet is the love letter.
Backed, properly
Two-year warranty as standard, 30-day returns. If something isn’t right, we’d rather know — and put it right.
A fitting should outlast the fashion that chose it.
