Your electrician will need to run appropriate outdoor-rated cable to the installation location.
Is IP54 suitable for UK gardens and will this post light withstand rain?
Yes, the Dune's IP54 rating makes it fully suitable for UK outdoor use in gardens, along pathways, and near doorways. IP54 means it's protected against dust ingress and splashing water from all directions, so it will cope well with rain, but it shouldn't be submerged or subjected to high-pressure water jets. This rating is standard for garden post lights and ideal for exposed locations.
What type of E27 bulb works best with this fitting and can it be dimmed?
The Dune accepts any E27 screw-in bulb up to 12 watts and is dimmable when paired with a dimmable bulb and a trailing edge dimmer switch. Since the clear glass cylinder leaves the bulb fully visible, decorative filament LED bulbs (either warm white 2700K or vintage amber 2200K) work beautifully to create ambience. Choose an outdoor-suitable LED bulb for longevity and energy efficiency.
How tall is this post light and will it provide enough illumination for a pathway?
The Dune stands 600 mm (60 cm) tall with a diameter of 143 mm, making it a low-level pathway light rather than a tall bollard. At this height, it's ideal for marking pathway edges, patio borders, or doorway entrances with subtle accent lighting. For functional pathway illumination, consider spacing multiple units every 2–3 metres, using bulbs of around 400–600 lumens each for adequate visibility.
Can this post light be installed in soil, gravel, or onto paving slabs?
Yes, the Dune is suitable for all three surfaces. It comes with a ground mounting stake for pushing directly into soil or gravel, and can also be fixed to paving slabs or concrete using appropriate outdoor fixings (not included). Ensure the electrical cable is protected with conduit if running underground, and that all connections are made via a suitable weatherproof junction box or outdoor circuit.
Does this outdoor post light come with a bulb or do I need to buy one separately?
No bulb is included, so you'll need to purchase a separate E27 bulb with a maximum wattage of 12W. Since the glass housing is clear and the bulb is on full display, a decorative LED filament bulb is recommended for the best aesthetic effect. Make sure to choose a dimmable bulb if you plan to use a dimmer switch.
