What type of bulb does the Elva 55cm pendant light take and what's the maximum wattage?
The Elva uses a standard E27 Edison screw bulb with a maximum wattage of 12W. No bulb is included, so you'll need to purchase one separately. For best results with the fabric shade, we recommend a warm white LED bulb (2700K-3000K) to complement the taupe finish and create that cosy, diffused glow.
Can this pendant light be dimmed?
Yes, the Elva is dimmable when fitted with a dimmable E27 bulb and controlled via a trailing edge dimmer switch. The fitting itself is compatible with dimming, but you must use a dimmable LED bulb and ensure your dimmer switch is rated for LED loads. Standard rotary dimmers designed for older incandescent bulbs may cause flickering.
Do I need an electrician to install this pendant light?
Yes, an electrician is required as this is a hardwired Class I fitting that must be connected directly to your mains circuit. Under UK Building Regulations Part P, all new electrical connections in dwellings must be installed by a qualified electrician or notified to Building Control. The installation itself is straightforward for a professional and suitable for plasterboard, timber joist, or concrete ceilings.
What are the dimensions and is the cable length adjustable?
The shade measures 55cm in diameter with a total drop height of 179cm from ceiling to bottom of the fitting. The cable is 1.8 metres long and the height is adjustable, so your electrician can shorten it during installation to suit your ceiling height and table position. This makes it ideal for standard UK ceiling heights of 2.4m or higher.
Is the Elva suitable for a bathroom or kitchen?
This pendant has an IP20 rating, meaning it's only suitable for dry indoor locations and not rated for bathroom zones or areas exposed to moisture. It's perfect for dining rooms, living rooms, and bedrooms, but should not be installed in bathrooms, outdoor spaces, or directly above kitchen sinks or hobs where steam and splashes occur.
What warranty does this pendant light come with?
The Elva comes with a 2-year manufacturer's warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. It's CE marked and RoHS compliant, meeting all UK safety standards. Keep your proof of purchase for any warranty claims, though note that bulbs are considered consumables and aren't covered by the fixture warranty.
