Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Questions
Does the Gabriel ceiling light need to be installed by a qualified electrician?
Yes, as this is a hardwired ceiling light, installation falls under Building Regulations Part P in England and Wales. Unless you're a competent person registered with an electrical self-certification scheme, you'll need a qualified electrician to carry out the installation and certify the work. The fitting connects directly to your mains ceiling supply, typically via a BESA box or ceiling rose.
What type of bulbs does this fitting take and are they included?
The Gabriel uses 2 × E27 Edison Screw bulbs (standard ES fitting), with a maximum of 25W per lampholder. Bulbs are not included, so you'll need to purchase them separately. You can use LED, halogen, or traditional incandescent E27 bulbs up to 25W each, giving you flexibility in brightness and colour temperature.
Is the Gabriel ceiling light dimmable?
Yes, this fitting is dimmable, but you'll need to fit dimmable E27 bulbs and have a compatible dimmer switch installed. Not all LED bulbs dim smoothly, so look for bulbs specifically marked as dimmable. If you're installing a new dimmer, ensure your electrician fits one suitable for the bulb type you're using (LED-compatible dimmers for LED bulbs).
Can I paint this plaster ceiling light, and what's the best way to do it?
Yes, the Gabriel is designed with a paintable white plaster finish that you can decorate to match your ceiling or walls. For best results, use a water-based emulsion or ceiling paint and apply thin, even coats with a brush or small roller. Allow the paint to dry fully before installation, and avoid painting the glass diffuser or internal electrical components.
What are the dimensions and how much clearance do I need?
The Gabriel measures 300mm in diameter and has a height of just 65mm, making it a low-profile flush or surface-mounted fitting suitable for rooms with lower ceilings. At 2kg, it requires secure fixing to a ceiling joist or suitable mounting point. The compact dome shape works well in hallways, bedrooms, or smaller living spaces where headroom is limited.
Is this ceiling light suitable for bathrooms?
No, the Gabriel has an IP20 rating, which means it offers no moisture protection and is only suitable for dry indoor areas. For bathroom use, you'd need a minimum of IP44 (or IP65 for shower zones), so this fitting should be kept to living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, and other spaces away from direct water exposure.
