Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Gabriel ceiling light need to be installed by an electrician?
Yes, as this is a hardwired ceiling fitting, it must be installed in compliance with UK Building Regulations Part P. Unless you are a qualified electrician or competent person, you'll need to hire a registered sparks to connect it to your mains supply. The Gabriel is Class II (double-insulated), so it doesn't require an earth connection.
What bulbs do I need for this square plaster ceiling light?
This fitting requires 2 x E27 ES (Edison Screw) bulbs, with a maximum wattage of 25W per bulb. Bulbs are not included, so you'll need to purchase them separately. You can use LED, halogen, or traditional incandescent E27 bulbs up to 25W each, and the fitting is dimmable if you choose dimmable bulbs and pair them with a compatible dimmer switch.
Can I paint the Gabriel plaster ceiling light?
Yes, the Gabriel features a paintable white plaster finish, allowing you to customise it to match your ceiling or décor. Use a suitable emulsion or paint designed for plaster surfaces, and ensure you mask off the glass diffuser and any electrical components before painting.
What are the dimensions of this square ceiling light?
The Gabriel measures 250mm (25cm) wide, 250mm (25cm) deep, and 85mm in height, making it a compact square flush fitting suitable for rooms with standard or lower ceilings. It weighs 1.8kg, so it can be mounted directly to a standard BESA box or ceiling rose backplate.
Is this plaster ceiling light dimmable?
Yes, the Gabriel is dimmable, provided you fit it with dimmable E27 bulbs and install a compatible dimmer switch on the circuit. LED bulbs will require an LED-compatible trailing or leading-edge dimmer, while halogen or incandescent bulbs work with standard rotary or slide dimmers.
Can I use this ceiling light in a bathroom?
No, this fitting is rated IP20, which means it has no protection against moisture and is only suitable for dry indoor areas. For bathrooms, you'd need a minimum of IP44 (or IP65 for shower zones), so the Gabriel is best reserved for living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, or dining rooms.
