Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Questions
Do I need an electrician to install this trimless downlight?
Yes, you'll need a qualified electrician to install the Kanto. As a hardwired mains-voltage fitting, installation falls under Part P of the Building Regulations in England and Wales, requiring certification upon completion. The installation is rated as moderate difficulty due to the plaster-in process, which involves cutting the ceiling aperture, securing the fitting, and plastering flush before final decoration.
Can I use this trimless downlight in a bathroom?
Yes, the Kanto's IP65 rating makes it fully suitable for bathroom zones 1 and 2, including directly above baths and showers. The sealed enclosure protects against water jets from any direction, ensuring safe operation in wet environments. Always confirm placement with your electrician to ensure compliance with the current wiring regulations for your specific bathroom layout.
What GU10 bulb do I need and is it dimmable?
The fitting accepts any standard GU10 bulb up to 7W maximum (typically LED), which you'll need to purchase separately as no bulb is included. The Kanto is fully dimmable when paired with a dimmable GU10 bulb and a leading edge (TRIAC) dimmer switch. Choose your preferred colour temperature—2700K for warm white or 4000K for neutral white—based on the room's purpose.
What are the cutout dimensions for ceiling installation?
The Kanto requires an 87mm diameter cutout in your plasterboard ceiling. The fitting itself is 39mm tall with a recessed depth of 106mm, so you'll need at least 106mm of clear void space above the ceiling for installation. Once plastered flush, only the aperture remains visible—no bezel or trim protrudes below the ceiling line.
How does the trimless plaster-in finish work?
The Kanto is designed to be plastered directly into the ceiling, creating a completely seamless finish with no visible trim ring. After installation and wiring, you skim plaster over the integrated flange so it sits flush with your ceiling surface, then paint to match. Once complete, only the clean matt black aperture is visible, giving that high-end architectural look found in contemporary interiors.
What warranty comes with this downlight?
The fitting is covered by a 2-year manufacturer's warranty and is both CE marked and RoHS compliant, meeting UK safety and environmental standards. The warranty covers manufacturing defects but does not extend to bulbs, which are consumable items, or damage caused by incorrect installation or use beyond the IP65 rating.
The Enso Standard
Anyone can sell you a light.
We’d rather sell you the right one.
Lighting, considered.
Chosen, not stocked
For every piece here, we passed on hundreds. If a fitting doesn’t earn its place, it isn’t here.
Curation is mostly the art of saying no.
Held to one standard
Copenhagen brass or precision-built LED — every piece is vetted the same way: finish, build, light quality, safety. If it doesn’t pass, it doesn’t stay.
The standard doesn’t care what a light costs.
Nothing left to guess
Every dimension, bulb, IP rating and install note published before you buy — you and your electrician know exactly what arrives.
The spec sheet is the love letter.
Backed, properly
Two-year warranty as standard, 30-day returns. If something isn’t right, we’d rather know — and put it right.
A fitting should outlast the fashion that chose it.
