This makes it ideal for covered outdoor areas like porches, verandas, and pergolas where it's sheltered from direct rainfall, but not suitable for fully exposed locations where it would face heavy rain or submersion.
Do I need an electrician to install this outdoor pendant light?
Yes, this is a hardwired fitting and under Part P of the Building Regulations, outdoor electrical installations must be carried out by a qualified electrician or registered competent person. The Cairn is a Class I fitting requiring an earth connection, and installation difficulty is rated as moderate. Your electrician will need to connect it to existing outdoor wiring or extend a circuit from your consumer unit.
What type of bulb does the Cairn take and is it dimmable?
The Cairn uses a single E27 Edison Screw bulb (not included) with a maximum wattage of 12W, making it suitable for modern LED bulbs. It is dimmable when fitted with a dimmable E27 bulb and controlled by a trailing edge dimmer switch. We recommend an LED filament bulb in warm white to complement the rustic lantern design.
What are the dimensions and how low does it hang?
The lantern measures 150mm wide, 150mm deep, and has a total drop height of 750mm from the ceiling to the base of the fitting. The height is not adjustable, so you'll need to ensure you have adequate clearance beneath—particularly important for pathways or seating areas under covered porches where headroom matters.

The Cairn must be installed in a covered location such as under a porch roof, veranda ceiling, soffit, or pergola with adequate overhead protection. While its IP44 rating handles splashes and moisture, it's not weatherproof enough for fully exposed positions where it would face direct rain, snow, or standing water.
What warranty does this outdoor lantern come with?
This fitting comes with a 2-year manufacturer's warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. The warranty is valid from the date of purchase and covers the fixture itself, though bulbs are considered consumables and aren't included. Keep your proof of purchase and ensure installation is carried out by a qualified electrician to maintain warranty validity.
