Does the Luminar Box Mount Wall Spotlight require an electrician to install?
Yes, as this is a hardwired fitting it must be connected directly to your mains electrical supply. Under UK Building Regulations Part P, all new electrical installations in dwellings must comply with safety standards, and we strongly recommend using a qualified electrician for installation. The fitting is designed to mount onto a standard wall box or BESA junction box.
What type of bulb does this wall spotlight take and is one included?
This spotlight uses a single GU10 bulb, which is not included with the fitting. GU10 is a standard bayonet-twist fitting widely available in the UK, compatible with both halogen and LED bulbs. We recommend a GU10 LED bulb in warm white (2700-3000K) to complement the focused beam and achieve the best energy efficiency.
Can this wall light be dimmed and what dimmer switch do I need?
Yes, the Luminar is dimmable, but you'll need to use a dimmable GU10 bulb and a compatible dimmer switch. This fitting requires a trailing edge dimmer switch for smooth, flicker-free dimming performance. Always check that your chosen GU10 bulb is marked as dimmable, as not all LED bulbs support dimming.
What are the dimensions of this spotlight and how far does it protrude from the wall?
The cylindrical spotlight measures 100mm in height and 50mm in diameter, with a width of 60mm accounting for the mounting plate. It weighs 2kg, making it a substantial, quality fitting. The compact profile ensures it won't protrude excessively from the wall while still providing full adjustability for directing light where needed.
Can this wall spotlight be used in a bathroom?
No, this fitting is rated IP20, which means it's suitable for indoor dry locations only and offers no protection against moisture. For bathroom use, you would need a minimum of IP44 (or IP65 for zones 1 and 2), so the Luminar is not appropriate for bathroom installation. It's ideal for living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, and home offices instead.
What is the ideal mounting height for this adjustable wall spotlight?
The recommended mounting height for this fitting is between 1.4 and 1.8 metres from the floor. This range allows comfortable adjustment of the beam angle and works well whether you're using it to highlight artwork, wash a feature wall, or provide directional reading light beside a bed or chair. The adjustable head gives you flexibility to fine-tune the light direction once installed.
