Good to know
A few questions,
before it comes home.
Does this picture light require an electrician to install?
Yes, the Maison is a hardwired wall light and must be installed by a qualified electrician in compliance with UK Building Regulations Part P. The fitting connects directly to your mains wiring, typically via a BESA box or knockout behind the mounting plate. While rated as 'easy' to fit mechanically, all mains electrical work in the home must be carried out or certified by a registered electrician.
What type of bulb does this picture light take and is it dimmable?
This fitting takes a single E14 small Edison screw bulb with a maximum wattage of 7W. You can use either LED or halogen E14 bulbs, though LED is recommended for energy efficiency and cooler running temperatures near artwork. Dimming capability depends entirely on the bulb you choose and whether you have a compatible dimmer switch installed—the fitting itself does not restrict dimming.
What are the dimensions and how far does it project from the wall?
The Maison measures 230mm wide, 140mm high, and projects 220mm from the wall due to its swan neck arm. This 22cm projection provides sufficient clearance to direct light downward over framed artwork without casting shadows from the frame itself. Ensure you have adequate clearance above the picture frame for the fitting—typically mounted 10-15cm above the frame's top edge.
Can this antique brass picture light be used in a bathroom?
No, this fitting has an IP20 rating, which means it offers no moisture protection and is suitable for dry indoor locations only. IP20-rated lights are not safe for bathroom zones where water spray or high humidity are present. For bathroom lighting, you would need a minimum of IP44 (or IP65 for shower zones).
How much light does this fitting produce and what colour temperature works best?
Light output depends entirely on your choice of E14 bulb, up to the 7W maximum. A typical 5-7W LED E14 bulb produces approximately 400-600 lumens, which is ideal for accent lighting a single piece of artwork without overwhelming it. For art illumination, choose a warm white bulb (2700-3000K) to enhance warm tones, or a neutral white (4000K) for true colour rendering of contemporary pieces.
What warranty does this picture light come with?
The Maison picture light is covered by a 2-year manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. The warranty covers the fitting itself, including the metalwork and electrical components, but does not cover bulbs, installation costs, or damage from improper fitting. Ensure your electrician follows the supplied instructions to keep the warranty valid.
