Good to know
A few questions,
before it comes home.
Does the Maison picture light need to be installed by a qualified electrician?
Yes, as this is a hardwired Class I wall light, it must be installed by a Part P qualified electrician to comply with UK Building Regulations. The fitting connects directly to your mains wiring rather than plugging into a socket, so professional installation is both legally required and necessary to ensure safe earthing and connection to the electrical supply.
What type of bulb does this picture light take and what's the maximum wattage?
The Maison uses a small Edison screw (E14) bulb with a maximum wattage of 7W. We recommend using an LED E14 candle or golf ball bulb to keep within this low wattage limit whilst providing adequate illumination for your artwork. Standard E14 LED bulbs in warm white (2700K-3000K) work particularly well for picture lighting.
Can I use a dimmer switch with this picture light?
The fitting itself is compatible with dimming, but you'll need to fit a dimmable E14 LED bulb and install an appropriate LED-compatible dimmer switch. The dimmer must be installed by your electrician during fitting, as this is a hardwired light that requires mains connection. Always check that your chosen E14 bulb is marked as dimmable on its packaging.
What are the dimensions and how far does the swan neck extend from the wall?
The Maison measures 230mm wide, 140mm high, and extends 220mm from the wall at its furthest point due to the swan neck arm. This 220mm projection means the light sits well clear of the wall, allowing it to direct light downwards onto artwork or frames hung below. Ensure you have adequate clearance in your chosen location to accommodate the swan neck profile.
Is this picture light suitable for use in a bathroom?
No, this fitting is rated IP20 which means it's suitable for dry indoor areas only and offers no moisture protection. It cannot be used in bathrooms or any other humid or wet environments. For bathroom picture lighting, you would need a fitting rated at least IP44 or higher depending on the zone.
What colour temperature works best with this picture light for displaying artwork?
While the fitting accepts any E14 bulb up to 7W, warm white bulbs (2700K-3000K) are generally best for artwork as they provide a gallery-style glow that enhances colours without the harshness of cool white light. For a more neutral presentation of modern art or photography, you could opt for a 3500K-4000K natural white E14 LED instead. The choice depends on your artwork and the ambiance you want to create.
