Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this lantern post light need to be installed by a qualified electrician?
Yes, the Mirage is a hardwired outdoor fitting and installation must comply with Building Regulations Part P, which requires electrical work outside to be carried out or certified by a qualified electrician. The manufacturer rates this as a moderate difficulty installation, typically involving a concrete base or paving mount and mains supply connection. Always isolate the mains supply before any electrical work is undertaken.
What type of bulb does this post light take and is one included?
This fitting requires a single E27 (Edison Screw) bulb with a maximum wattage of 60W, but no bulb is included with the lantern. You can use LED, halogen, or traditional incandescent E27 bulbs up to the stated wattage limit. For best energy efficiency and longevity outdoors, we recommend an LED E27 bulb in a warm white colour temperature.
Can I use this outdoor post light with a dimmer switch?
Yes, the Mirage is dimmable when fitted with a compatible dimmable bulb and a trailing edge dimmer switch. You'll need to ensure both your E27 bulb and your dimmer are compatible with each other—LED bulbs in particular require specific trailing edge dimmers to avoid flickering. Standard rotary or push dimmers will not work reliably with most LED lamps.
Is this lantern post light suitable for exposed coastal or very wet locations?
The fitting has an IP44 rating, which protects against splashing water from any direction, making it suitable for most UK gardens, driveways, and pathways. However, IP44 is not rated for high-pressure water jets or full submersion, so avoid installing in areas prone to flooding or directly in the path of heavy water runoff. The operating temperature range of -20°C to 40°C covers typical UK outdoor conditions year-round.
What are the exact dimensions and will this lantern suit a standard driveway entrance?
The Mirage stands 199.5cm tall (just under 2 metres) with a width and depth of 17cm each, giving it a slender profile that won't obstruct pathways or vehicle access. This height is ideal for flanking driveways, gates, or garden entrances where you want a statement piece that provides adequate illumination without overwhelming smaller front gardens. You'll need a suitable paving slab, concrete base, or hard surface for stable mounting.
What warranty is provided with this outdoor post light?
This lantern post light comes with a 2-year manufacturer's warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. The warranty requires installation by a qualified electrician in accordance with UK wiring regulations and does not cover damage from improper installation, accidental damage, or normal wear to the finish. Proof of purchase and professional installation certification may be required for warranty claims.
