Yes, this is a hardwired ceiling fitting that must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with UK Building Regulations Part P. It's a Class I fitting requiring connection to mains earth, and the installation difficulty is rated as moderate. The light should be mounted to a suitable ceiling surface such as plasterboard with joist support, timber joist, or concrete.
What type of bulb does this ceiling light take and is one included?
The Ravel uses a standard E27 screw-in bulb (also called Edison Screw) with a maximum wattage of 12W, but no bulb is included in the box. For best results with the woven paper shade, we recommend a warm white LED bulb (2700K-3000K). The fitting accommodates standard E27 bulb shapes including GLS, globe, or filament styles.
Can I dim the Ravel woven ceiling light?
Yes, the Ravel is dimmable when paired with a dimmable E27 bulb and a trailing edge dimmer switch. The fitting itself supports dimming, but you'll need to purchase a compatible dimmable LED bulb separately and ensure your dimmer switch is suitable for LED loads. Standard rotary dimmers designed for old incandescent bulbs may not work properly with modern LED bulbs.
What are the dimensions and will it suit a small bedroom?
The Ravel measures 600mm in diameter and 360mm in height, making it a substantial statement piece best suited to medium to large rooms with adequate ceiling height. For a small bedroom, this size may feel overpowering—it works beautifully in living rooms, dining areas, or master bedrooms with ceilings of at least 2.4m. Consider the visual weight of the woven shade and ensure there's sufficient clearance below the fitting.
Is this ceiling light suitable for bathrooms?
No, the Ravel is rated IP20, which means it's not protected against moisture and is only suitable for general indoor use in dry areas. UK bathroom zones require minimum ratings of IP44 (Zone 2) or IP65 (Zones 0 and 1), so this fitting cannot be safely installed in any bathroom location. It's ideal for living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, and hallways.
What warranty does the Ravel ceiling light come with?
This ceiling light comes with a 2-year manufacturer's warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. The warranty applies from the date of purchase and the fitting is both CE marked and RoHS compliant, meeting UK safety and environmental standards. Keep your proof of purchase as you'll need it for any warranty claims.
