Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Does the Gatsby ribbed wall light need an electrician to install?
Yes, as this is a hardwired Class II wall light, it must be installed by a qualified electrician in compliance with UK Building Regulations Part P. The fitting connects directly to your mains circuit and typically mounts to a standard wall or BESA box. No plug is provided, so DIY installation is not permitted unless you hold the appropriate electrical qualifications.
What bulbs do I need for this up and down wall light?
This fitting requires two E14 small Edison screw (SES) bulbs, with a maximum wattage of 20W each. Bulbs are not included, so you'll need to purchase them separately. You can use LED, halogen, or incandescent E14 bulbs up to the wattage limit, and the fitting is fully dimmable when paired with compatible dimmable bulbs and a suitable dimmer switch.
Can I paint the Gatsby plaster wall light to match my walls?
Yes, the white plaster finish is specifically designed to be paintable, allowing you to customise it to match your décor. Use standard emulsion or similar interior paints once the fitting is installed. This makes it ideal for creating a seamless, integrated look where the light becomes part of the wall architecture.

Is this wall light suitable for bathrooms?
No, this fitting has an IP20 rating, which means it offers no protection against moisture and is only suitable for dry indoor locations. For bathroom use, you would need a minimum of IP44 (or IP65 for zones 1 and 2), so the Gatsby should be installed in living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, or other moisture-free areas only.
Can this wall light be used with a dimmer switch?
Yes, the Gatsby is fully dimmable, but you must use dimmable E14 bulbs and ensure your dimmer switch is compatible with your chosen bulb type (LED, halogen, etc.). LED bulbs require an LED-compatible trailing edge dimmer for flicker-free performance, whereas halogen bulbs work with standard leading edge dimmers.
