Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Why Choose This Light

Architecture That Becomes Light
Where It Works
Suitable spaces for this light
How It Lights Your Space
Designed to blend into your wall
It works as well in a hallway or stairwell as it does flanking a fireplace or feature wall, and because the face paints over completely, it suits any colour scheme — from chalky neutrals to deep, moody tones — without needing a finish change.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Galea paintable plaster wall light require an electrician to install?
Yes, as this is a mains-powered hardwired wall light, installation must comply with Building Regulations Part P in England and Wales. Unless you're a qualified electrician or competent person, you'll need to hire a registered spark to connect it safely to your mains circuit and issue the necessary certification.
Can I paint over the plaster finish on this wall light?
Yes, the Galea is designed with a paintable plaster finish so you can match it to your wall colour. Use standard emulsion paint and apply thin, even coats to avoid clogging the plaster texture. Allow the paint to fully cure before switching the light on to prevent any discolouration from heat.
What type of bulbs does this up/down wall light take?
The specifications don't list bulb type or fitting details, so you'll need to check the product packaging or manufacturer documentation upon delivery. Most plaster wall lights of this style typically use GU10 or G9 capsule bulbs, but confirm the fitting before purchasing bulbs separately.
Is this wall light suitable for use in a bathroom?
There's no IP rating provided in the specifications, which means the Galea is not certified for bathroom zones where moisture protection is required. It's best suited for dry interior spaces like hallways, living rooms, or bedrooms where splash or steam exposure isn't a concern.
What are the dimensions of the Galea paintable wall light?
Unfortunately, dimensions aren't listed in the provided specifications. For accurate measurements to check clearance and proportion in your space, please refer to the technical drawing on the product page or contact EnsoLight directly before ordering.
Can this up/down wall light be used with a dimmer switch?
Dimmability depends on both the light fitting and the bulbs you use, but the specifications don't confirm if the Galea is dimmer-compatible. If you want dimming functionality, check the manufacturer's notes and ensure you pair the fitting with dimmable LED bulbs and a compatible trailing-edge dimmer switch.
