Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Solara Alabaster Wall Sconce require an electrician to install?
Yes, as this is a hardwired wall light, installation must comply with Part P of the Building Regulations in England and Wales. Unless you are a competent person registered with a self-certification scheme, you'll need a qualified electrician to carry out the installation and certify the work. Most UK homes have standard BESA box mounting points for wall lights, which simplifies the installation process.
What type of bulb does this wall sconce take and is it dimmable?
The bulb type and cap fitting are not specified in the provided specifications, so you'll need to check the product listing or contact the retailer for the exact lampholder type (typically E27, E14, or G9 for wall sconces). Dimmability depends on both the fitting's compatibility and the bulb you choose—if the fixture supports dimming, you'll need a dimmable LED bulb and a compatible dimmer switch installed by your electrician.
What are the dimensions of the Solara wall light?
The exact dimensions are not provided in the specifications supplied. We recommend checking the full product listing for height, width, and projection measurements to ensure the sconce suits your wall space and doesn't protrude too far in narrower hallways or beside doorways.
Is this alabaster wall sconce suitable for bathroom use?
The specifications do not include an IP rating, which suggests this fitting is designed for general indoor use in dry locations only. Bathrooms require specific IP ratings depending on the zone (IP44 minimum for most zones), and without a stated rating, the Solara should not be installed in bathrooms or other moisture-prone areas.
Can the antique brass finish tarnish or does it require maintenance?
Antique brass finishes are typically treated to achieve their aged appearance and are relatively stable, though they may develop further patina over time when exposed to moisture or handling. For indoor wall lights in dry environments, minimal maintenance is needed—occasional dusting with a soft cloth is usually sufficient. Avoid abrasive cleaners or polishes, which can damage the finish.
What kind of light does alabaster give off compared to glass or fabric shades?
Alabaster is a natural stone that diffuses light beautifully, creating a warm, soft glow with subtle veining patterns that add character to the illumination. Unlike clear glass, it eliminates glare and harsh shadows, making it ideal for ambient lighting in hallways, living rooms, or bedrooms. The translucent quality provides gentle, flattering light without the stark brightness of exposed bulbs.
