Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Solara Alabaster Wall Sconce require an electrician to install?
Yes, this is a mains-wired wall light and must be installed by a qualified electrician in compliance with UK Building Regulations Part P. The fitting will typically mount to a standard BESA box or backplate on a finished wall surface. Always ensure the mains supply is isolated before beginning any electrical work.
What type of bulb does this wall light take?
The Solara uses a standard screw-in bulb fitting (usually E27 or E14 depending on the lamp holder size—check the product specification for confirmation). You can use LED, halogen, or incandescent bulbs up to the maximum wattage stated on the fitting label. For alabaster shades, warm white LEDs (2700K–3000K) typically provide the most flattering glow through the natural stone.
Can I use this wall sconce with a dimmer switch?
Dimming capability depends on the bulb you install, not the fitting itself. If you have a compatible dimmer switch installed, simply use a dimmable LED or halogen bulb. Ensure your dimmer is rated for LED loads if using LED bulbs, as older dimmer switches designed for incandescent lamps may cause flickering or poor performance.
Is the alabaster shade fragile, and can it be replaced if damaged?
Alabaster is a natural stone and, while durable for everyday use, can chip or crack if struck. Handle with care during installation and cleaning. Replacement shades are sometimes available from the manufacturer, but alabaster pieces are often unique due to natural veining, so an exact match may not be possible.
Can I use this wall light in a bathroom?
This fitting does not have an IP rating suitable for bathroom use unless specified otherwise in the product details. UK bathrooms require specific IP ratings depending on the zone (e.g., IP44 or higher for zones 1 and 2). Check the technical specification—if no IP rating is listed, the Solara is intended for dry indoor locations only.
What rooms or settings is the Solara Alabaster Wall Sconce best suited for?
The combination of alabaster and satin brass makes this sconce ideal for hallways, living rooms, bedrooms, or dining areas where you want soft, ambient lighting with a touch of elegance. The alabaster diffuses light gently, creating a warm glow rather than focused task lighting, so it's perfect for mood and accent lighting rather than workspaces.
