What bulbs do I need for the Aiko five-light pendant bar?
You'll need five E27 (Edison screw) bulbs, with a maximum of 12W each. Bulbs are not included, so you'll need to purchase them separately. For the best effect with the linen shades, opt for warm white LED bulbs (2700K-3000K), and choose dimmable versions if you want dimming functionality.
Can this pendant be dimmed?
Yes, the Aiko is dimmable when fitted with dimmable E27 bulbs and a trailing edge dimmer switch. The fitting itself is compatible with dimming, but you must use dimmable bulbs and ensure your electrician installs an appropriate trailing edge dimmer on the circuit. Standard non-dimmable bulbs will not dim and may flicker or fail prematurely.
Do I need an electrician to install this pendant light?
Yes, an electrician is required. This is a hardwired Class I fitting that must be connected directly to your mains circuit, which is notifiable electrical work under Part P of the Building Regulations in England and Wales. While the installation itself is straightforward for a qualified electrician, it's not a DIY job unless you're registered with a competent person scheme.
What are the dimensions and how low will it hang?
The pendant bar measures 1000mm wide, 80mm deep, and has a total drop of 1480mm from ceiling to the bottom of the shades. The height is adjustable via the 1.5m cable, so your electrician can shorten it to suit your ceiling height and table position. It's ideal for dining tables where you typically want 70-90cm clearance above the tabletop.
Is this pendant suitable for a bathroom?
No, the Aiko has an IP20 rating, which means it's not protected against moisture and is only suitable for general indoor dry locations. For bathrooms, you need a minimum of IP44 rating (IP65 for shower zones), so this fitting should be used in dining rooms, living rooms, kitchens, or bedrooms only.
What's the total light output and is it bright enough for a dining table?
With five 12W LED bulbs (approximately 1055 lumens each at typical efficiency), you'll achieve around 5000-5500 lumens total, which is ample for a dining table up to about 2 metres long. The linen shades diffuse the light beautifully for a soft, ambient glow rather than harsh overhead brightness. For a brighter effect, choose higher-lumen E27 bulbs within the 12W maximum.
