Product Care Guide
Plaster
Dust with a soft, dry cloth only. Plaster is porous, so avoid all liquid cleaners — they'll stain or mark the surface. Raw plaster fittings can be painted: use a matte emulsion in two thin coats, allowing each to dry fully before powering on. Don't install in bathrooms or other damp areas unless the IP rating allows it.
Brass & metal
Brass develops a natural patina over time, which most people prefer. To keep the current finish, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. For a brighter look, use a brass-specific polish sparingly. Never use lemon, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners — these damage lacquered brass irreversibly. Polished chrome and nickel finishes can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth.
Glass
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid water marks. For stubborn marks, a mild glass cleaner is fine. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and fully cool before cleaning.
Fabric shades
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on the lowest setting using an upholstery attachment. Avoid wet cleaning — fabric shades can stain, warp, or shrink. Spot-clean small marks only with a barely-damp microfibre cloth.
Ceramic
Glazed ceramic can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Unglazed or matte ceramic should be kept dry and dusted only. Always ensure the fitting is switched off and cool first.
Before you clean
Switch off at the wall and let the fitting cool fully. Never spray cleaner directly onto a fitting — apply to a cloth first. If your fitting has visible wiring, electrical components, or LED drivers exposed, keep moisture well away from these areas.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Corvus hexagonal lantern require a qualified electrician to install?
Yes, this is a hardwired ceiling-mounted outdoor fitting that must be installed by a qualified electrician in compliance with Part P Building Regulations. The lantern mounts to a standard BESA box or ceiling outlet, and whilst installation difficulty is rated as easy for a professional, mains electrical work is not suitable for DIY. All necessary mounting hardware is included with the fitting.
Is this lantern suitable for exposed outdoor locations and what does IP54 mean?
The Corvus carries an IP54 rating, which means it's protected against dust ingress and splashing water from any direction, making it suitable for covered porches, canopies, and recessed entrance areas. It's not fully weatherproof against driving rain or direct water jets, so it should be installed in a sheltered position rather than fully exposed locations. The fitting operates reliably in temperatures from -10°C to 40°C.
What type of bulb does this outdoor lantern take and is one included?
This fitting takes a standard E27 Edison Screw (ES) bulb up to 60W maximum, but no bulb is included with the lantern. You can use LED, halogen, or traditional incandescent E27 bulbs depending on your preference for energy efficiency and light output. For best results outdoors, we recommend a warm white LED (2700K-3000K) which will complement the frosted glass diffuser.
Can I use this lantern with a dimmer switch?
Yes, the Corvus is dimmable, but the actual dimming performance depends entirely on the bulb you choose. You'll need to fit a dimmable E27 bulb and ensure your dimmer switch is compatible with that specific bulb type—LED bulbs in particular require LED-compatible dimmer switches to avoid flickering or buzzing.
What are the exact dimensions of this hexagonal lantern?
The Corvus measures 270mm in diameter across the widest points of the hexagon and 130mm in height, making it a relatively low-profile ceiling lantern that won't hang down excessively. These compact proportions make it ideal for standard porch ceilings or entrance canopies where headroom may be limited.
What warranty coverage comes with this outdoor lantern?
This fitting is covered by a 5-year manufacturer's warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. The warranty covers the aluminium body, glass panels, and electrical components, provided the lantern has been installed correctly by a qualified electrician and used within the specified operating temperature range of -10°C to 40°C.
