Questions we get asked

How long do cordless table lamps last on one charge?

It depends on the brightness setting, battery size and battery age. Our Lira is rated at up to 8 hours a charge; where a listing gives no figure, plan on an evening and time it on the first night.

How long does a cordless lamp take to charge?

Hours, not minutes. The Lira takes around 6 hours to charge fully by USB-C, and you will need a USB plug like the one that charges your phone.

Can I use a cordless lamp outside?

Only if it is sold for outdoor use and rated IP44 or better. Most cordless indoor lamps are IP20, so indoors only; our Glow Solar Lantern is IP44 and charges by sun or USB-C.

How bright is a cordless lamp compared with a mains lamp?

The cordless lamps in our range with a stated output give 30–200 lumens. A mains lamp with a 60W-equivalent bulb gives about 800, so cordless lamps are for mood rather than reading.

Where does a cordless lamp not work?

As the main reading lamp. A lamp on for five hours a night needs charging every day, and most cordless lamps are too dim for close work.

How do I charge a cordless lamp safely?

Use the supplied cable and a reputable USB plug, and charge on a hard surface. Let a cold lamp warm to room temperature first, and never charge one that is damaged, wet inside or hot.
