Questions we get asked

What size pendant do I need for a high ceiling?

Add the room's length and width in metres and multiply by 8 for a starting diameter in centimetres. From about 2.7 m, go one size up, because a tall room gives the eye more wall to measure the light against.

How low should a statement pendant hang over a dining table?

Leave 75–85 cm between the tabletop and the bottom of the shade, whatever the ceiling height. A high ceiling just means a longer drop.

What light suits a stairwell or double-height hall?

Hang it over the middle of the flight, keep 2.0–2.1 m clear above the treads and landing, and avoid a bare bulb in the eyeline of someone coming down. Two-way switching lets you control it from both floors.

How much headroom do I need under a large pendant?

About 2.0–2.1 m clear between the floor and the bottom of the fitting wherever people walk beneath it. Over a table nobody walks under, so it can hang lower.

What bulbs should I use in a statement pendant?

Dimmable 2700K bulbs suit living rooms, halls and dining rooms. Check the cap and wattage limit on each listing: several of our large resin shades take a 7 W maximum E27 LED.

Do I need an electrician to fit a large pendant?

Yes. Every pick here is listed as needing an electrician, and heavier fittings such as the alabaster chandelier need fixing to a joist. A registered electrician can check the ceiling will carry the weight.
