Questions we get asked

Can you paint plaster wall lights?

Yes, paintable plaster is made to be painted. Seal the raw plaster with a mist coat or plaster sealer, then brush on two thin coats of water-based emulsion, ideally before the light is fitted.

What should I not paint on a plaster wall light?

Leave the lampholders, wiring and cable entry, the inside where the bulb sits and any glass diffuser bare. Give the paint a full day to dry before the light is switched on.

Can plaster wall lights go in a bathroom?

No. Every plaster wall light we sell is rated IP20, for dry rooms only, and porous plaster marks with steam.

Which bulb does a plaster wall light take?

Ours take G9 capsule or E14 small screw bulbs, and most are sold without them. Fit an LED bulb well under the listed maximum wattage: it runs cooler, which is kinder to plaster and paint.

How high should plaster wall lights be?

Centre them 1.5–1.7 m above the finished floor, and 1.7–1.8 m for uplights so nobody looks into the bowl. Beside a bed, measure 90–110 cm up from the mattress.

Do I need an electrician to fit a plaster wall light?

Yes. Our plaster wall lights are hardwired and some are Class I fittings that need an earth, so a registered electrician should fit them, particularly in a new position.
